Barkly Cottage is just a short stroll to the main street shops and cafes, cinema, gallery and train station. Picturesque Ararat is surrounded by beautiful countryside, wineries, country markets and of course the infamous Aradale Asylum and J-Ward old Gaol. We're just a 40 minute drive to stunning Halls Gap and The Grampians too.

A working mini flower farm is located here so you might see me working occasionally.

The space
Barkly Cottage was built in 1902 and has had a few renovations since then! It has its quirks as it is over 100 years old. The whole house is available for you which is a 3 bedroom house with living area, modern kitchen and bathroom.
Note that 2 of the 3 bedrooms are up a small 3-step staircase.

Guest access
The whole house is available for you to use and there is a grassy back yard. There is off street undercover parking for 2 cars.
We've recently set up a small flower farm at the rear of the property so it's possible that you'll see me working or harvesting flowers. I'll always be sure to let you know prior to me arriving.

Other things to note
Tea, coffee, fresh milk, bread and toast spreads are provided for our guests. Free Wifi is also included.
All bed linen and towels are provided.
**Bedding - Please note that the 5th bed, the single trundle bed, is a bit shorter than a regular single bed-perfect for a child or the shortest adult in your group!
** Note the 2 queen beds have electric blankets in the colder months. The 2 x kid's single beds do not have electric blankets for safety reasons. Barkly Cottage has plenty of blankets too.

Hi, I'm Angie. I am a mum, an animal lover and a collector of pretty things. I relocated from Melbourne to Ararat 3 years ago. It was the proximity to the beautiful picturesque Grampians, country living and the nearby wineries that brought us here. We love being close to so many lovely country towns like Avoca, Talbot, Smythesdale and Skipton, which have gorgeous antique / collectible stores and craft / farmers markets once a month. Ararat also has its own Farmer's Market held on the 2nd Sunday of each month in Alexandra Hall. In addition to looking after 2 kids under 3, I also run The Sweet Pea Flower Farm here in Ararat which specialises in seasonal blooms which we sell at the Ararat Farmers Market. My partner, Jesse, has a keen interest in collecting vinyl records and runs a stall within the Stawell Picker's Market. Our quaint Miner's Cottage is now available for you to stay in. We hope you find it comfortable. We are still in the process of completing a visual story of Barkly Cottage's history which was built in 1902 by Mr John Joseph Berkery. Mr Berkery owned acres of market gardens surrounding the house, supplying fruit and veg to the town. The house has seen a few changes since then and the garden still needs some attention though plans are underway to turn the extended back yard into a flower farm. I am always happy to answer your queries about Ararat and its surrounding towns, wineries, events and of course dates for farmers markets! ...Angie
