This is a picture postcard 700 year old cottage (yes, 700 years old!) in the centre of the highly acclaimed and easy accessible village of Hartington, superbly situated adjacent to the Rover Dove.
There are three bedrooms, each room has a spacious en-suite, one of them a full size bathroom. The original 700 year old (!) cruck beams can still be seen. The spacious living room is heavily beamed and has an Inglenook fireplace with imposing dressed stone surround & stone mullioned windows

The space
The cottage is also graded 5 Star by the country's official grading organisation VisitEngland, something which only a very small percentage of cottages achieve. In the grading process, the Inspectors has also awarded an almost unheard of 100% for standards of housekeeping (cleaning) on each of their annual visits over the last ten years.
Please note this is a non-smoking and pet free cottage. As well as the fabulous open Inglenook fireplace, there is of course central heating, fully under guests' control. The kitchen is extraordinarily well equipped, with a few guests having joked they made a point of trying to find something missing but been unsuccessful.
In the cottage there are eleven (!) highly praised personalised information folders, ensuring guests are able to take maximum advantage of their stay in Hartington and its environs. This source of information has been highly praised by both experienced Tourist board Inspectors, and also by numerous guests
The cottage benefits from super-fast wifi (which can be picked up anywhere in the cottage). There are full sky programmes (so including sports, entertainment and films) available on the television in the living room and the three bedrooms all have televions, but only with freeview channels. On the other side of the courtyard as well as a laundry room there is what we call a Sky sports room with 55 inch TV and surround sound, again offering all the Sky channels but also BT sports (this is shared with occupants of our two other cottages, but in practise guests in Knowl usually are the only ones using this room and occupants of the other cottages have their own sky programmes in their own cottages).
There is parking in front of the cottage for two large or three smaller cars.
Please note that rentals include heating electric towels and linen unlimited logs, kindling wood and a bit more. Please also note that for reasons that are too tedious to explain this sites' computerised pricing figure is sometimes but not always incorrect for guests looking to stay for a short break that includes a friday or a saturday night (in addition to other nights), It is however correct for those looking to book for a stay that does include both friday and saturday nights. So if wishing to book a short break that includes a Friday or a Saturday night but NOT both, then rather than proceeding to the 'request to book' link, please instead send an enquiry by clicking on the 'contact your host' tab. On the other hand quoted rentals during the low season period for those wishing to stay five days or longer if four or more are in the party are shown at too HIGH a rental, please enquire for a lower rental quote.

Where you’ll be

Hartington, England, United Kingdom

Hartington itself is one of the honey-pot villages in the Peak District, being regarded as an excellent base for walking and cycling. This is helped by its location only a couple of hundred yards from the River Dove. which can easily be reached from the village over an attractive meadow and from there , there is an excellent riverside path down to Dovedale (the most famous area of the Peak District). As a result the village is able to support, despite only having 130 houses, several tea shops, two (excellent) coaching inns, a delicatessen, a grocers, two gift shops, a post office, an art studio, an antiques shop and famous cheese shop to which many make a point of travelling from miles around. There is also a duck pond which acts as a magnet to many visitors.
The village is approached down a gorgeous but easily driven 2 mile long dale road from one of the Peak District's main artery roads, making it extraordinarily easy to get around to visit the numerous attractions in the Peak District.

Married to Frances, with whom I share responsibilities for this property, I deal mainly with marketing, frances responsibility is attention to detail! We have in fact run holiday cottages now for 22 years, initially where we lived until a year ago, (where eventually after undertaking various barn conversions we had six in addition to three here in Hartington.) The six holiday lets on the land where we lived were sold a year ago when we moved, but because we still enjoyed the holiday lettings business, we have kept the three we own in Hartington. Our primary concern is to ensure that guests have a good stay, and we go to considerable lengths (in a way too tedious to explain simply in an entry on a web site such as this) to assist in that regard - and our other concern is to avoid complaints! We are only too aware that for many guests this might be their only holiday of the year and we certainly dont want to disappoint them. The reviews on this and other similar web sites (where all reviews were 5 star) and entries in our visitors book repeatedly confirm our professionalism, our commitment and our enthusiasm for the area.
