The farm has great spots to explore and we were able to enjoy a bonfire at night with a beautiful look at the sky sans light pollution. The history of the house was palpable and was the perfect place for our group to stay. If you're climbing the Via Ferrata, perchance, it's a relatively close drive and works very well!

We really enjoyed staying in this lovely old farm house. We enjoyed the historical information provided, too. The house was very clean and as described. The kids loved the friendly dog!

We had a lovely time staying here! The farm is beautiful and the house has a lot of history, but is very well kept up, and has new bathrooms and appliances, which made our stay comfortable and pleasant. Adam was super responsive and helpful in answering all of our questions, and Lee, the on-site host, was very welcoming and hospitable. Also we thoroughly enjoyed meeting Ellie, the farm dog, as she is very friendly and playful. The only things I would like to let folks know in advance is that if you are going in the fall/winter, it will be fairly chilly in the house - we spent most of our time in the living room, which has an excellent gas heater that keeps the room quite warm and cozy. The other rooms have space heaters, but they won't be able to do much in the larger rooms, like the kitchen. (Adam did give us a heads up about this ahead of time, so we were able to prepare and bring plenty of layers). Additionally, the kitchen is stocked with plenty of cooking utensils and dishes, but there aren't any spices (besides salt and pepper) or cooking oil that we could find, so if you are planning to cook a lot of meals, you might want to bring your own. Overall, highly recommend staying here! It was a very restful and enjoyable vacation, and the hosts do a great job of maintaining the space and making guests feel comfortable and accommodated.

Doe Hill is a quiet and refreshing retreat in a beautiful pastoral setting. We loved the gathering space the house offered, exploring the land, and incredibly gracious hosts who welcomed us to their seven-generation farm! Pack your food to cook in a well stocked kitchen and bring your hiking shoes!

Wonderful family farm house from c. 1914. Much of the interior appears to be original. Various interesting family mementos and bits of history scattered through the house. Everything was clean and comfortable. Good sheets and towels. Kitchen was well-equipped and well-stocked with basic supplies, including bottled water, coffee, and tea. Theres a large fridge / freezer, microwave, electric stove, dish washer, toaster, and lots of small appliances. (Theres a small grocery store in McDowell about 15 minutes away.) Very good location for star gazing — skies were quite dark. No direct outdoor lighting at all, though some minor glow from distant cities to the east. Theres a good spot for telescope viewing just south of the house — no trees and reasonably level. Good horizons in most directions. Adam’s parents live in the house next door, and greeted me and gave a quick tour upon my arrival. Ellie the border collie was an enthusiastic companion whenever I was outside the house. It is a working farm, so there was some noise from cattle and machinery, though none of it was obtrusive. Listing descriptions were quite accurate. Wifi was available on the porch of the other house and worked OK. No cell service. Adam was always quick to respond, good communications. Highly recommended!
