Quintessentially Sweden! Red cottages, grazing cows and sheep. Visit Astrid Lindgrens World and Kolmården Safari Park or simply stay at home. Take a stroll in the park or read a book. Stensnäs estate offers among others cycling, clay pigeon shooting, great walks, swimming, moose safari and a visit to our mine. Get married in our chapel or renew your vows. Bring your horse to our stable or enjoy cray fishing in august.

The space

Traditionally the home of the dowager Countess the South Wing was built around 1830 in the prevailing style of swedish empire. Airy and light it contains 5 bedrooms, living room, dining room, a small library and a roomy kitchen. A south facing conservatory was added a few years ago with steps leading to a paved south facing terrace for sunning and eating. Furthermore our chapel in the North Wing makes Stensnäs ideal for weddings. We no longer have horses in our lovely stable - complete with tack room a bar and fireplace - but will happily accommodate yours (fees apply) if you so wish.

Guest access

From the simple pleasures of picking your own bouquet of wild flowers, take a stroll in the park, go for a swim on your private pontoon, read a book or go fishing to waterskiing*, wake skating*, clay pigeon shooting*, bird spotting and canoeing. All are activities that are enjoyable on site within a few minutes walk. If we widen the geographic circle to include beautiful nature trails, a visit to our old mine - Stonebo gruva - with a 90 meter long adit (tunnel) , crayfish fishing* (in august), wild safari with the chance of spotting among others moose, cycle to our spring, or climb the hills to see the far reaching views or the few remnants of a Viking fortress, go bird watching by our wetlands where the sea eagle hover or just pick mushrooms for dinner you would still be within Stensnäs property boundaries. Further afield you could spend a day at sea enjoying the Tjust archipelago or visit the quaint town of Västervik.

Staying here was an absolute pleasure! The hosts were always very helpful and you could just walk next door to their house if you needed anything. We lived comfortably in this house with three families. Tons of room for the kids to play indoors and outdoors. There was a small fishing boat to use and your own private dock. The closest grocery store is about 5 min drive but it's very small. If you want to do a bigger shopping trip then you need to drive about 30min to the next town. There is a swimming area about 10min drive from the house that was well taken care of and great for kids. The only downside we had with our stay was that they have a large bell on the house next door that rings every hour and half hour, even through the night! It's not good to have when you are a light sleeper. All in all we were very pleased and hope to make this destination a yearly tradition!

We (8 friends + 2 babies) stayed here for five days and are all very pleased with our experience. Beautiful classical interiors in a wonderful setting just next to the lake. We went swimming and fishing (lots of perch!) and enjoyed the mine experience nearby. Most of all we enjoyed late night dining on the patio as the sun set, coloring the lake pink. We would come back.

Mind-blowing experience to saty in a family manor with such a long history! Worth every kilometer we drove! We were greeted by Wolter himself who showed us everything around the house and the lake and took us on an evening safari to the forest. Unforgettable! We had wonderful days full of peace and enjoyed every touch of the house. Susanne was always there on SMS to co-ordinate our check-in and check-out time. We hope to come back one day and wish Susanne and Wolter all the best!
