The space

The Old School House was built as the village school in 1823, and later became the Schoolmaster’s house in 1855, when a new school was built next door. David and Shelagh have completely renovated this Georgian property to create a cosy, welcoming home with many original features and all modern conveniences.
There are beautiful views of Scawfell and Wasdale from the rear, and over Ravenglass to Black Coombe at the front. Set back from the road, it's the perfect place to chill and relax after a busy day.

Guest access

No. 1 Scawfell View has a king-sized bed, and there is also a desk if you need to stay in touch with work during your stay.
The large, luxurious guest bathroom with walk-in shower and deep, freestanding bathtub is shared with No. 2 Scawfell View; our guests just love the bathroom and don't mind sharing. Bath robes are provided. So, take time out to kick back a little.
Our guest lounge has a cosy, quiet area and a sitting room with TV, DVD player and surround sound. There's a selection of books, TV, games, video and audio CDs. Feel free to enjoy the peace and quiet of the house and garden - treat the place like a home from home. It works best when you're at ease with everything so if we can help with anything please say.

Interaction with guests

We love meeting people, and we're happy to chat about (almost) anything, but our prime concern is to ensure that your stay with us is relaxing and enjoyable - we'll greet you with tea, home-made cake and a smile. We can offer advice on walks and activities in the area, tell you the best places to eat and shop, or share a family meal (additional charge of £10 pp for 2 courses), but if you just want to be left alone, we will leave you to it.

Other things to note

As we are surrounded by fields, you may from time to time be disturbed by our tame blackbird, local sparrows, chattering swallows, nosy cows looking over the wall, the occasional banter between the horse and rooster on the next door farm, and the sound of the grass growing.

A wonderful place to stay. We wished we could have stayed longer! Shelagh and David were really welcoming and their knowledge of the local area and hiking in the lake district was very helpful. They gave us advice on hiking routes, the most scenic drives and the best pubs to stop in after a long day of walking. The room is beautiful, and peaceful, and the bed is unbelievably comfortable. Songs will be written about the breakfasts! I would definiately recommend Scawfell View.

Scawfell view stay was one of our best Airbnb experiences. The house was very cozy and nice. It had everything what we needed and over our expectations. We had a kettle and mugs in the room so we could make a coffee or tea + fresh water and biscuits. We fell in love the big bathroom with shower and bath which was for us and the room next to us. Shelagh and David are really nice people. They were very helpful with tips and advises of what to around the Lake District area. They also lend us a map and book so we could study our way on top of Scafell Pike. We had every morning a nice fresh and big breakfast prepared by themselves so we never left the house hungry. I would recommend to everybody to stay at Shelagh and David's place as they will not be disappointed but nicely surprised!!

We arrived and were greated with tea and the most delicious home made cake. David and Sheela were the perfect hosts. They had prepared a handy booklet listing local places to eat which was very well written and also contained alot of information about the local area. Everything was amazingly clean and tidy and very well appointed. Breakfast was amazing with cereals of all varieties followed by a full english and a huge pot of fresh tea. If your planning on visiting the lakes, you really should stay here! We are certainly going back again.
