The space

Candlemas Cottage is one of a small group of houses dating from at least the early 1800s, which appear on old Ordnance Survey maps as 'Halfway Houses', simply because they are midway between Hanslope village and the neighbouring hamlet of Long Street. It is tucked away in a quiet location behind the other cottages, and has open fields at the rear, beyond the parking area. There is a small patio garden to the front of the cottage, which guests are welcome to relax in.

Guest access

The entire property is available for guests to use.

Interaction with guests

We live right next door, so we're always on hand if guests have any questions. We're happy to advise on places of interest and nearby restaurants.

Other things to note

For the convenience of guests, we have provided a selection of books and board games. In the kitchen there are plenty of recipe books, and fresh herbs in planters on the windowsill (currently filled with marjoram, coriander, curry plant, sage and oregano). In addition to these, guests are welcome to use the rosemary, lemon balm and thyme plants in the courtyard garden to the front of the cottage.
We like to welcome guests with a breakfast basket including bread, butter, milk, preserves and fruit juice; do let us know if there are any special dietary requirements (e.g. gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian) and we will do our best to meet your needs. Of course, standard items like tea, coffee and sugar are also provided.

Owner Lyn is very hospitable, welcomed us warmly with some homemade goodies for Christmas! The Cottage was very clean, well equipped and nicely furnished. Provisions were given for the bathroom, kitchen and log fire too. Very quiet location, but easy drive to all major routes. Highly recommend if you want a cosy cottage, relaxing sofas, central location. We visited Harry Potter, the reason for our break, about an hour away. Thanks Lyn

This cottage was just perfect, and exactly what we expected too. Lyn gives fantastic directions and kindly met us as we arrived to direct us to where to park and find the cottage (it is just off the street so it's great that Lyn did this). The cottage was very clean, it has a lovely log fire which we made use of (and also has Sky tv too). The kitchen is well stocked with every utensil, spices and fresh herbs. For kitchen we were provided a lovely hamper of breakfast goodies, along with homemade jams (the lemon marmalade was my favourite!). We were driving down to Guildford and this was a perfect halfway mark and break our journey down. We would seek out to stay here again and 100% recommend.

A really lovely cottage - it is very spacious with a great kitchen including a washing machine which is a bonus if you work away from home a lot! A great night's sleep too very peaceful. It is walking distance to the village pub which was lively and friendly. If you don't want to go out there is Sky TV and plenty of cook books!
