Buonvicino was born in 1200 from the union of three villages: Saved, Tripidone and Trigiano. The first two of Greek descent houses were perched on the cliff walls of the Strait. South of Serra Pagano, in the territory of Belvedere Marittimo, stood, however, Trigiano (built by the Romans in the area today became the Buonvicino campaign). Among the three settlements at the beginning, there were continuous feuds. Men of Saved and Trepidone, always in search of food, besieging the fertile Trigiano territories. Only when the emperor Michael IV of Constantinople (1034 and 1041 AD) gave privilege in the lands and the settlers of Trigiano in San Ciriaco (abbot of the monastery of Santa Maria dei Padri rising in the territory of Buonvicino) the relations between the community changed. The monks, in fact, granted to all three houses to cultivate grazing in those fertile lands.
The monastery was named, later, eparchy (upper body site in the Basilian including all centers of the Tirreno) and became a reference point of the orthodox-greek rite. Attracted beneficial influence exerted by the monastery, over the years, many residents of the three villages moved near the monastery. The new village, according to historians, existed before 1327. Shown at the beginning as good neighbors or good neighbor became, for a linguistic distortion, Bomvicino, Bombicino or Bonivicini. The town probably owes its name to the Basilian monks who decided to seal the union between the three communities. E ', however, in 1869 that the country will definitely called Buonvicino.
