Platypus Bend Riverside Retreat is situated on a 110ha rural escape nestled on the banks of the meandering Mann River. The home sits on a crest above the river and is designed to take advantage of the location with peaceful water & rural views. Wildlife abounds with regular sightings of platypus in the river. Surrounded by bush and pasture in total privacy, the comfortable home is a short drive to town for basic supplies but far enough away to retreat and replenish in a unique setting.
Accommodation is an eco-friendly brick veneer 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home with attached carport. It can accommodate up to 3 couples or older children and is pet friendly. This well insulated home, with double glazed windows throughout, is solar passive with large windows in the living areas facing to the north. A timber deck opens from the dining room offering a warm sun trap for winter breakfasts. The large main bedroom features king sized bed, ensuite with separate toilet and walk around shower, fitted walk in robe and opens onto the large, rear verandah which overlooks the river. The kitchen houses a 700mm dual fuel, gas/electric free standing stainless steel oven/cook top with range hood, along with stainless steel dishwasher. Both bathrooms have under floor heating for those cool winter nights. The home is self-sufficient in water, with 10,000 gallons of rain water storage and is powered with a 7.8kW solar system designed to meet all of your needs. Water is an absolute feature with 1 km of frontage to the pristine & permanent Mann River. Wildlife abounds with regular sightings of platypus in the river.
Dogs are welcome if kept outside, exceptions made for small, clean house dogs who may come inside. Please bring feed bowls and bedding for your canine friends. Dogs are fee to roam around the house block but please keep dogs on a leash when walking the property there is livestock in the paddock you are walking through.
YOUR HOSTS ARE NOT ON SITE:
The home is totally private and self-contained and there is no face to face interaction with your hosts unless you request this. We live one hour away in Inverell but can be contacted easily
The home and the entire property as long as the guests are respectful of the livestock and wild life. Visiting dogs are to be kept on a leash when not in the immediate vicinity of the house. We also require all guests to leave gates as they find them unless requested otherwise.
Interaction with guests
We do not live on site but may visit the farm during your stay to do stock work or fencing. We will not impose on your space and generally park at the shearing shed if we have guests staying. We are also happy to meet & chat if you like.
Other things to note
The home is powered by a 7.8Kw solar system. Fire wood will be available.
The horses are friendly and would love some bread if you have some. If you are not used to horses please keep a fence between you and them as they can be quite greedy.
As we live close to a river and a number of dams it will be the responsibility of the guests to monitor their children at all time. There is a fence between the house and the river but it is not child proof.
