The space

The yurt is a very cozy little space and is beautiful inside with its traditional Mongolian hand-painted wood beams.

It is suitable for all seasons and is equipped with a small woodstove for heating. The yurt will be toasty and warm upon arrival.

The yurt is fully furnished with a double bed and futon, which can be used as a sitting area or additional bed option. There is also a small table with chairs and shelving for storage. A private outdoor compost toilet is situated right next to the yurt.

The yurt is equipped with basic kitchen necessities such as plates, cups, cutlery, pots and a kettle. There is a BBQ and outdoor fire pit for cooking and the woodstove inside the yurt is like a hot plate. We provide large jugs of water from our natural spring for drinking and washing.

Natural lighting comes from the 'tunnel' at the top of the yurt. However, it is a good idea to bring a lantern, flashlights or headlamps for additional lighting at night time.

Outdoors there is a large fire pit area and a screened in gazebo for the summer months.

Guest access

Guests can experience a variety of outdoor activities for every season right from the door step.

In the winter months, guests can enjoy our extensive groomed trail system for cross-country skiing or explore our many designated trails for snowshoeing. For an adrenaline ride, guests can slide down our tubing runs or enjoy tobogganing on a groomed sliding hill. For a new adventure – guests are welcome to try out kicksledding. At the end of the day, guests can relax and unwind with a hot cup of cocoa by the fire or enjoy a hot sauna.

In the spring, summer and fall, there are plenty of trails for hiking or biking and infinite spaces for exploring. If you enjoy the water – guests can enjoy swimming, canoeing, stand-up paddling or floating in a tube on the beautiful and serene Bang’s Bay, an inlet off the Ottawa River. In the right season, there is an abundance of wild raspberries, blueberries and blackberries for picking. The autumn is spectacular with the ever-changing colours and incredible viewpoints overlooking the Laurentian Mountains.

The canoes, paddle boat, stand-up paddle boards and tubes are available free for our guests to use. Cross-country skis, snowshoes and kicksleds are available for rent.

Interaction with guests

We live on the same property. However, the yurt is set in its own remote and private location.

We will be available to greet our guests and provide an orientation of the yurt. We will also be available for any assistance during your stay.

We are very personable and enjoy interacting with our guests. However, we like to leave it up to our guests to decide how much interaction they are interested in.

The neighbourhood

We are situated on 485 acres and are surrounded mainly by crown land. There is no sound or light pollution. It is tranquil other than the sounds of nature and the stars at night will take your breath away. It is a true wilderness setting.

Our home is completely off-the-grid and we produce all our energy from solar and wind power.

As our guest, it is our mission to provide you with an opportunity to slow down, connect with nature and enjoy life’s simple pleasures while demonstrating the values of a sustainable lifestyle.

Getting around

The yurt is accessible by car in the spring, summer and fall. However, it is a very short hike in for the winter months only (approximately 5-10 minutes by foot from the parking area). Please note that we would be available to help transport all your gear into the yurt or we can provide sleds so guests can pull their own gear in if they choose to.

Other things to note

With regards to bedding - we typically provide the bottom sheets, pillows and pillow covers. Guests need to bring their own comforters/sleeping bags. If you are traveling and don't have any bedding - please let us know and we can arrange to provide complete bedding.

Wow. What a stay! The beautiful yurt is tucked away in the woods, about a 10 minute walk from the car and main house. We got a chance to completely disconnect and really be us two. Jen was such a nice host. Highly recommended! Be sure to bring lights at night time, and brush up on your fire making skills!

Purchased a two-night stay at Nature's Harmony as a Christmas present for my parents. Jennifer was so accommodating and even prepared a gift certificate to give them on Christmas morning! Here is what my parents had to say about their experience: "Just spent two amazing nights in the Mongolian Yurt. Love the location and the owners were very welcoming and had everything ready for our arrival. Wonderful hiking/snowshoe trails, great fun snow tubing and a beautiful view from the yurt doorway. Fabulous environmentally friendly facilities! Highly recommend Nature's Harmony!"

Great way to enjoy any season in comfort. This area offers plenty of outdoor activities to keep busy summer or winter. The yurt was easy to keep warm even through some of the coldest nights of the winter. The sliding and tubing hill provides hours of entertainment for the young ones or the young at heart. I would highly recommend staying here for those new to winter camping or for those just looking for a few extra amenities and higher level of comfort when camping.

Being first time yurt-ers, my Girlfriend and I had the perfect winter yurt experience. The yurt was very secluded, cozy, and tranquil with all the snow. There were lots of trails that were available for us to explore and the hosts were even nice enough to let us borrow some snowshoes. Very accommodating hosts who were happy to chat and answer any questions we had.

Tzach and Jen graciously upgraded up to Shamayim Cabin at no extra cost when the Yurt needed repairs. The whole experience was amazing. Our arrival at our hideaway was spectacular with softly falling snow. The next morning, the skies and scenery was breath-taking. We even saw moose tracks one day. We will definitely be back.

Jen & Tzach Elnekave are the owners and hosts of Nature’s Harmony and we are the proud parents of three young children, Ella, Maya and Ethan.

Tzach is originally from Israel and Jen is a native Canadian. In 2002, we both left our home countries as independent travelers to tour the world for a year. But, fate had our paths cross on foreign sands. We met in a small seaside village in Cambodia and shared an immediate connection. This led to a long process of good byes, not knowing whether we would meet again, and the shuffling of travel plans to re-unite.

At the end of our travels, we both spent time together in each of our home countries. Despite the obstacles of independence, distance, cultures and religions – we crossed every hurdle and we were married in Israel on April 28th, 2006.

For both of us, the entire travel experience was a life changing one. We first left our home countries with nothing more than a backpack and an open mind. As individuals, we allowed the experience to guide us – with no restrictions and no time constraints. We experienced different cultures, religions, foods and learned about the history of each country. In these lesser developed countries, we often sensed an inner peace that we rarely encounter back home. The experience taught us both to slow down and appreciate the simple things in life.

This travel journey will always remain one of the greatest memories of our lives. But, what followed were some of the most challenging years to come. The experience changed us more than we would have ever imagined. We now wanted so much more out of life. We felt a need to make a difference in the world and to live a life that would inspire us.

We spent two hard years searching and struggling to find our purpose and meaning. In 2004, we came up with our business idea on a four hour road trip to North Bay. The idea itself encompassed everything for us. We wanted to live a green lifestyle. We wanted to create and share the type of environment that we enjoyed most while traveling. We wanted to continue to meet new people. We wanted to be close to nature. And most importantly, we wanted to make a difference – whether it is sharing our sustainable lifestyle or inspiring others to follow their dreams.

We were both so excited and full of inspiration. The first place that came to mind was Mattawa because it is one of the most beautiful, yet undiscovered places in Northern Ontario. However, it didn’t take long for fear to overshadow our dream. Slowly, the dream slipped away – it never left us, but it was buried deep inside.

In 2006, after a number of remarkable coincidences, the dream resurfaced. Tzach was starting to study Reiki and Jen decided to have her first session so that she could understand what he was studying. During this session, our vision was brought back to life. This time it was clear and all the fear was removed. That very same day, the listing for our place came out of no where. It felt like one of those rare opportunities that only comes once in a life time.

The next day, we went to see the place and as we slowed down to turn on to the dirt road leading to the house, there was a huge wooden sign with big, red, block letters that read, ‘No Regrets’. The message was a little too powerful to ignore and from the moment we stepped through the front doors, we both knew this was the place.

We are very grateful to be here and we look forward to sharing Nature’s Harmony with everyone who comes our way!
