The Maritime Museum at Hellisssandur has displays that include Iceland´s oldest rowboat, built in 1826.

The beautiful beach Krossavík, with a mixture of sand, black pebbles and lava and rich in birdlife and history, lies west of the village, perfect for an evening or morning hike.

The area between Hellissandur and Rif is a bird-lovers paradise and one of the largest nesting sites of arctic terns in Icleand.

Snaefellsjokull National Park is on the doorstep of Hellissandur. https://www.ust.is/snaefellsjokull-national-park/

The distance between Reykjavík and Hellissandur is 195 km and is about 2,5 hours drive.
