This is a sweet location with tons of nearby restaurants and bars. Alex was incredibly easy to communicate with and was more than willing to work with us when a complication arose for our stay. This listing is super cozy and perfect for a visitor to Shanghai.

Alex wrote me detailed instructions before I arrive. His description of the room and neighborhood is accurate, which is located in a nice and quiet section of Shanghai. He's very helpful and responsive to my questions and offered quick help to fix the water heater problem. I really enjoyed staying his apartment.

I really enjoyed my stay at Alex's place. Alex himself was communicative, quick to respond, and thorough with everything we needed beforehand. Although it was a busy holiday week, Alex still made sure we were comfortable, and recommended some wonderful places to eat and drink nearby. The apartment is quaint, cozy, and very comfortable. It was quiet while we were there, and the neighbourhood is a very quiet and calm part of town. There are great restaurants, bakeries, and markets within walking distance, and the subway line was only about a 10 minute walk.

We enjoyed dealing with Alex he was very responsive to all our emails the house was charming and in a very safe neighborhood. He made it very easy to find and enter the house, and stopped by to check on us a few hours after we arrived.

Ok, first let's talk about the good points: from the very start Alex was very easy to deal with. Communication was very quick, and the whole process of getting the keys was flawless. Second, the location is prime, in a quiet, tree-shaded little street right in the middle of the french concession. We found everything we might want to be right around the corner, wheter it is a good coffee shop (*plenty* of options to choose from), restaurants, boutiques, etc. Really, we couldn't complain in this sense at all. And now to bad stuff: the apartment itself. I'm not sure if Alex actually lives there but it seems so. It's always complicated to criticize someone's else home, but I reckon that from the moment you decide to rent your place it stops being 'your home' and becomes 'your property' - and therefore susceptible to critics. Well, we didn't like the apartment at all. And I'm not complaining about the fact that it's a 4th floor without elevator - I already knew that from the description, so it would be unfair to criticize it now. But we found the building to be very rundown - dark, with graphiti on the walls and garbage on the corridor. And the apartment wasn't much better: it was relatively clean, but it was *very* rundown, the furniture, the bed linen, all was very worn. But the worst part was the kitchen: besides being quite smelly, almost everyday we would run into cockroaches - i suspect there was a nest somewhere in the kitchen. Needless to say we didn't spend much time there. So, as you can tell, we were very disappointed with Alex's place. Sure, it was very cheap, so maybe I should have see it coming, but still, it had some very good reviews so I really was expecting a better place. So, if you're looking for a affordable place right in the middle of the French Concession, this might be it, but don't expect much or you'll be disappointed.

Alex was a great host and was very good at keeping in touch. Super friendly. Apartment was as described. Needs a little bit of work (door was jammed and AC did not work in 1 of the rooms). I'm sure Alex would have fixed it immediately but he was out of town. Perfect location. Would recommend it.

Alex's apartment is located in the heart of the french concession. Beautiful tree-lined streets and great eateries. My friend and I had trouble with the keycard and keys, and the apartment was not as ready upon our arrival. This due to Alex not being in the country at the time and therefore there was a miscommunication with his house-keeper. Alex and his friend locally based friend did their best to resolve the issue, he apologized profusely over the phone long distance and refunded us a days rent. Alex is a communicative host and I am confident that the problems we had would be resolved with clearer instructions to both his future guests and the housekeeper. Overall, the apartment was super conveniently located at an unbeatable price point.
