Ok, first let's talk about the good points: from the very start Alex was very easy to deal with. Communication was very quick, and the whole process of getting the keys was flawless. Second, the location is prime, in a quiet, tree-shaded little street right in the middle of the french concession. We found everything we might want to be right around the corner, wheter it is a good coffee shop (*plenty* of options to choose from), restaurants, boutiques, etc. Really, we couldn't complain in this sense at all.
And now to bad stuff: the apartment itself. I'm not sure if Alex actually lives there but it seems so. It's always complicated to criticize someone's else home, but I reckon that from the moment you decide to rent your place it stops being 'your home' and becomes 'your property' - and therefore susceptible to critics.
Well, we didn't like the apartment at all. And I'm not complaining about the fact that it's a 4th floor without elevator - I already knew that from the description, so it would be unfair to criticize it now. But we found the building to be very rundown - dark, with graphiti on the walls and garbage on the corridor. And the apartment wasn't much better: it was relatively clean, but it was *very* rundown, the furniture, the bed linen, all was very worn.
But the worst part was the kitchen: besides being quite smelly, almost everyday we would run into cockroaches - i suspect there was a nest somewhere in the kitchen. Needless to say we didn't spend much time there.
So, as you can tell, we were very disappointed with Alex's place. Sure, it was very cheap, so maybe I should have see it coming, but still, it had some very good reviews so I really was expecting a better place. So, if you're looking for a affordable place right in the middle of the French Concession, this might be it, but don't expect much or you'll be disappointed.
