A newly renovated gite which is on 3 levels and stands overlooking the grounds and gardens of our country estate in the Normandy countryside. Sleeps four people and is fully equipped for a wonderful self catering holiday or a quiet weekend getaway.

Ideally situated for easy access to the attractions of Bayeux, Mont St. Michel and the D-Day Beaches, among other places of interest in Normandy and Brittany.

Guests are welcome to roam the grounds of the estate and enjoy our many facilities.

The space

The property is set in fifty acres of beautiful Normandy country landscape. Within this, there is a variety of woodlands, natural streams, fields and a small fishing lake - all with wonderful views of the surroundings. We breed highland cattle and it is common place to see a variety of lovely wildlife, most notably the array of birds in the region. Les Hirondelles boasts a wonderful view, scoping from the elevated view staring out at the lake to the south, to the swimming pool within close proximity, as well as the panoramic horizon from all angles due to the high viewpoint from the upper windows. Locally, there is a number of hiking, cycling and water sport areas which I have listed below from our site, but if you would like extra assistance do let me know.

We have a heated, shared swimming pool on our grounds, which is child and adult friendly alike. In addition to this, we have a shared tennis court with free hire of balls and rackets.

The region is a gem of tranquility, suited to the relaxed holiday state of mind. Our local villages are St-Michel-Du-Montjoie and St-Pois, where there are a small number of convenience shops, bakeries, tabacs and restaurants. Our nearest local town is Vire, which is around a 15-20 minute drive through the Normandy countryside. Vire has a number of large supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and all other amenities one would expect, whilst also being a charming and friendly town with plenty of life in the Summer.

There are a couple of different beaches within around a 30 minute drive from our property. The pick of the bunch for a visitor seeking a calm, secluded sandy beach day-out is Julioville. Its a really lovely space and is also within close proximity of Avaranche, a large seaside town that is definitely worth a visit. In addition to this, there is also the more historical D-day landing beaches, which are around a 45 minute drive.

Below I've copied and pasted from our sitepage. We would love to facilitate prospective guests for your stay in the Normandy region and hope that you choose our tranquil getaway.

War Memorials: Within Normandy there are many memorials and museums dedicated to D-Day and the ensuing battles fought for the liberation of France. There are war cemeteries throughout Normandy which are visited by many people from all over the world who come to pay their respects. More information can be found here (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) and here (American Battle Monuments Commission). The landing beaches on the North coast are a popular destination and worth a visit for reasons both historical and for their beauty.

Hiking & Cycling: A few kilometres can be trod with a walk around the grounds of La Tentonniere and the surrounding countryside. Locally the forest at St Sever proves to be a favourite hiking destination and there are hundreds of graded footpaths across the region which are numbered with a "GR" identification. The quite roads are perfect for cyclists and there is a popular path which runs along the river Vire (Chemin de Halage) covering around 65km (also great for walking) which can be joined at various points along the river.

Beaches: The beaches along the west coast of Normandy are nothing short of breathtaking. Miles of open beaches which are often deserted can be found all along the coastline not just to the west but also to the North of Normandy and Brittany. Favourite places include St-Jean-Le-Thomas (less than one hour from the gites), Agon-Coutainville and the Normandy D-Day landing beaches to the north. Busier coastal towns such as Granville offer shopping, restaurants and even a ferry service to the channel islands.

Places Of Interest: Amongst the many places of interest to visit in Normandy one of the most popular in France is Le Mont St Michel which is less than one hour from the gites. Bayeux is home to the famous 11th century tapestry (70 metres in length) depicting events leading up to the Norman conquest of England. There are many other sites around Normandy along with beautiful public gardens to visit, will help you to find your way to places that may be of particular interest to you.

Zoos: The zoos at Champrepus and Jurques are very charming and will appeal to animal lovers. Both zoos have feeding schedules to follow along with other attractions. In particular the white lions at Jurques are truly magnificent. From Granville on the west coast it is possible to take a ferry trip to Jersey and visit the world famous Durrell Wildlife Park.

Water Sports: If your sport involves potentially getting wet then there are a many places nearby. Inland there are sites offering activities along the river Vire, the river Orne and at Lake Dathee, and there are different water sports to be found along the west coast. Sports on offer are canoeing, kayaking, rowing, sailing, surfing, scuba diving and wind surfing. A popular destination is Clecy which is about an hour from the gites where they offer different vessels in which to navigate the river Orne. For the less adventurous there is always our heated pool!

Fishing In season there are many places to fish including the river Vire, the river Orne, lakes such as Lac Dathee (20 minutes form the gites) as well as sea fishing at the coast. Licences are normally required.

We have a lake which is well stocked with carp here on the grounds at La Tentonniere. When in season we offer fishing by prior arrangement on a catch and release basis. Please contact us for details.

A Sense Of Adventure: If you feel the urge to throw yourself from a perfectly sound tall structure to find yourself hurtling towards a river bed at great speed then a trip to Viaduc De La Souleuvre may be just what you are looking for! Amongst other things A J Hackett offer Bungee jumping and zip wire for you to fulfil your adrenalin needs. At Clecy you will find a challenging rock climb along with other activities. To see Le Mont St Michel from a different viewpoint then a flight overhead in a microlight may be just for you, click here for information.
