There is a perception that man makes the world better. But the truth is, this is only the case when man and nature work together in a symbiotic relationship.
“Growing Ideas” is our motto for this property - a place where ideas can be grown, but also ideas about growing: growing in the sense of food, the growth children experience, but also growth of body, mind and soul.
We were entrusted with the management of this family-owned property at the end of 2015 and we immediately knew we wanted to do something different. Having been run as a guesthouse for most of its life, the property lent itself well to that. We had a vision of creating a retreat style venue with an emphasis on learning, restoration and reconnection. As our time went on, we became aware of how self-sufficient we needed to be, living so far out! We realised that although the house being used as a guesthouse made use of the space, the land itself was capable of so much more. We wanted to share, yet protect, and responsibly steward this beautiful piece of land.
Part of this process is running a guesthouse/retreat venue. Our desire for our guests is to experience peace, tranquility and rest through quiet time and reflection. Bramleigh Manor is not run as a traditional B&B but our desire is to create a heartfelt experience for each person who visits this property. It is far off the beaten track - but that is what makes it so unique. It is not a place to have restaurants, activities and happenings close by, but a place to turn off your phone and rest. It is a place to come and be. This is a place to experience. It is not a place to stay. It is a place to feel.
The other part of this process is establishing and maintaining environmentally sustainable practices both in the guesthouse and on the farm. Regenerative agriculture is our focus by mimicking natural grazing, growing and harvesting practices in a way that respects, protects and benefits both the land and livestock.
Our mini conference venue is a ideal for workshops, training, retreats, development etc along these lines.
Both of us maintain jobs outside of Bramleigh Manor - Andre is a solar power system designer and Kait works at an ‘unschool’. Bramleigh Manor became a reciprocal informer of our lives and careers, while our lives and careers impacted upon the development of Bramleigh Manor. Andre’s work is clearly heavily involved in conservation and environmentally sustainable practices, designing solar power solutions for homes and businesses, using nature to make our lives more sustainable. Instead of altering nature to suit man’s desires, we realised how man and nature were designed to complement each other and live in symbiosis.
Kait’s work was influenced by a desire to create an environment for natural learning, where inborn curiosities, interests and abilities come to the fore. Learning and living according to the way we were designed, going back to the essence of the learning process in children and allowing children to be free to learn.
We invite you to share our home with us, share in our vision and be a part of the realisation of our vision.
