Comfortable & cozy double bedroom in a modernised 4-bed home of old Victorian railway cottages, in a quiet location overlooking field and wood, next to the lovely, small riverside village of Naburn. Good village pub & riverside café/bar nearby. Just 6km south from the centre of beautiful, historic York with all its major tourist attractions, and easy driving distance to Castle Howard, Fountains Abbey and National Parks. + Located next to National Cycle Routes 65/66, ideal for outdoor people.

The space
Our property consists of two railway cottages, constructed around 1871 next to the former main railway line from London to Edinburgh. This has been diverted onto a new high-speed line and the old track is now abandoned and since the mid-1980s the route of the line has been converted to a peaceful cycle-track, walkway and nature reserve. The cottages have been made into one dwelling, substantially extended on the ground floor, and modernised.

Guest access
Comfortable and quiet north-east facing first-floor double bedroom (4' 6" bed) which looks out over our garden wildlife area with shrubs, trees and well-stocked wild bird feeders. Use of modern family bathroom/wetroom on the ground floor. Upstairs WC with washbasin. Breakfast in dining room - tea, coffee, sugar, yoghurt, cereals, hot/cold milk, fruit juice, bread/toast etc. are provided. Use of large, farmhouse-style kitchen with Aga stove/cooker, microwave and dishwasher if desired.

Two lounges with TVs, the sunroom has garden views to enjoy many species of birds that inhabit the large, enclosed, private garden. Lawn for relaxing, outdoor sitting. Garden furniture and BBQ available for use in Summer months.

Other things to note
If arriving by car please park on the concrete area to the front of the cottage - the adjacent driveway is a shared access with the neighbouring property.

Guests travelling with bicycles - these can be securely dry-stored overnight if desired.

Refuse and recycling are collected from the cottage at approx. 07.30 on Monday mornings, and sometimes the truck reverses down the track to the cottage.

Take care when exiting onto the public road from the station area entrance as visibility is slightly limited and some traffic speeds can be high.

There are workshops in the former station goods yard which can be active during the daytime on weekdays.

Location

YORK, England, United Kingdom

We are situated in the pretty little rural riverside village of Naburn, a short (16 minute) bus ride from York city centre, with benefit of quiet countryside location. Local village pub (The Blacksmiths Arms) and convenient riverside café/bar (The Waterfront) in the adjacent marina, open during the day and which does evening meals on Fridays and Saturdays, and Sunday lunches (booking required) from 12 noon to 3pm, also sells groceries and basic provisions. There is a Post Office in the village (open 9am to 1pm Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday).
Perfect for exploring beautiful and historic York, ideal for cyclists/walkers with a network of local routes. We are also within easy travelling distance to the town of Selby with its historic Selby Abbey (& for our Chinese guests - where Taiwanese popstar Jay Chou's married Australian model Hannah Quinlivan!!), and also where one of the stained glass windows was the inspiration for the American flag!

For guests with cars, the stately homes of Castle Howard (the beautiful venue for Jay & Hannah's wedding reception!!!) and Harewood House; the magnificent Fountains Abbey and the picturesque Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks can be reached in 1/2 to 1 & 1/2 hour drives.
We have the advantage of being in a rural setting with lovely walks but are only 6km from York city centre with many major tourist attractions - York Minster, National Railway Museum, Castle Museum, Jorvik Centre, Chocolate Museum, Art Gallery etc. and a myriad of eating places and pubs!
(NOTE. It is advisable to book the Chocolate Museum tour in advance at busy times!!)

For our guests from China, Taiwan, S. Korea, Malaysia etc, there is a fine, large Chinese supermarket in the city centre, called Chi-Yip on George Hudson Street, if you are missing home cooking!!
