Nice place, with a wonderful view in the river. You can find in the yurt all the equipment you need for your stay. We hope we could come back in summer!

Glad you enjoyed your stay! For future guests ---when temperature drops at night in the 20's (winter) ---it makes for a chilly yurt in early morning hours---so i do recommend bringing heavy sleeping bags and dressing warm with layers. Our new cabinet heater gets Painted Horse warm but it is still a yurt ---not like putting heat on 70 degrees in your house. I provide an electric blanket for our full size bed that also will help retain the heat. Just pack for winter glamping! Annette

Loved our stay in the painted horse yurt! Enjoyed waking up to river views. Appreciated staying in a heated yurt and we were able to stay very comfortable through a sometimes cold and windy weekend. Great experience!

We loved all the hiking and restaurant recommendations that Annette provided. It was our first time staying in a yurt and it was a great experience. It was a freezing weekend, but we stayed comfortable with the heater on in the yurt. I would recommend wearing a few layers and b…

So glad you enjoyed your first yurt experience. Shew it was a freezing weekend ---first of the season. You will be happy to know - Yurts have now had the windows and doors winterized (ac units out of windows) which will help retain heat for a toastier feel. I do always say tho if under 25 degrees at night dress in layers and bring warm clothing and bedding. In the Painted Horse yurt there is an electric blanket for full size bed, along with cabinet heater. Yes even tho our water is treated ---in the outside hydrants (the water sits in the lines especially in the winter months ) so therefore, every time you open the hydrant you will get a hint of sulphur smell until runs for a few minutes. I always suggest bring bottled water even tho you can drink our water. The Shenandoah River does give a sorta lake view when river is lower than (URL HIDDEN) is actually great to kayak upstream at this level. Do come visit us again! Annette

Great place to get away. First time in a yurt and it was a good one. Location was great right on the river and quiet. However, the photos make it seem more secluded than it is. There are around 5 or so other yurts close to it, so not secluded but quiet (depending on neighbors). Y…

Thank you and so glad you enjoyed your stay at our Painted Horse Yurt @ the #1 Rock Tavern River Kamp. I am going to take this opportunity to clarify that #1 Rock Tavern River Kamp consists of an acre and a half of property located on the Shenandoah River with a really nice bathhouse, along with a total of 12 sites. I have yurts on 4 of them leaving 8 tent sites scattered thru out. I am set up for couples, friends, and families that would like to rent a yurt, or rent a yurt and a campsite. I am small group friendly. The major Holiday weekends are the busiest at our camp. In my advertising on airbnb I clearly state that this is the Painted Horse Yurt at the #1 Rock Tavern River Kamp and I have pictures of the early Fall on this listing site that does show 3 of my yurts as I just finished the 4th one in July of this year... I offer tubing, kayaking and canoeing from our kamp for our guests! Our rates are reasonable and comparable to outfitters in the area. Should my memory serve me correctly - all of your group took tubes except you asked for canoe so you could take your dog with you on the water (canoe rate is $50.00 per canoe that seats two with 2 life vests and 2 paddles (complimentary shuttle)--so this breaks down to $25.00 for human and $25.00 for your dog) so looking at it this way ---I can see why you felt it was a little steep, however, I cannot allow dogs to float in my pro tubes. Thank you to potential guests reading this for understanding in advance. Pets must also be pre-approved and pet fees do apply. Annette
