Crossing the bridge over the tumbling Ettrick Water, you arrive at ‘Brigend’. This charming, warm and cosy traditional 2 bedroomed stone cottage sleeps up to 4 people and has been lovingly restored, offering an ideal holiday haven for a couple or a small family.
Our cottage is very pet friendly and only a short stroll to the village pub. You can get close to nature, walk the hills and trails (several walks from the front door), cycle, fish, discover our heritage - or just simply relax!
Brigend has a fully fitted kitchen, multi-fuel stove in the cosy lounge area, a dining area, one double bedroom, a second bedroom with full size bunk beds, a shower room and a small ‘sit-ooterie’ to the rear of the cottage with wrought iron garden furniture.
The cottage is fully equipped with freeview TV, DVD, music centre and radio. The modernised kitchen has all mod cons including a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and microwave.
We are working towards environmentally friendly living. We are helping to support the environment through energy efficiency, recycling and using products which cause as little harm to the environment as possible. We use energy efficient light bulbs and spotlights throughout the cottage and are replacing all of the white goods with energy and water efficient models. Cleaning and washing products are provided that are derived from plant based materials and we supply plenty of recycled toilet paper and kitchen towel. The cottage is well insulated and there is an energy saving kettle. We help you to recycle what you use during your stay with containers provided. The nearby town of Selkirk became Scotland’s first plastic bag free town in April 2008. Many shops are taking part in this initiative and we have provided re-usable shopping bags for you to use during your holiday. We are helping to keep self catering in Scotland as green as possible!
There is a children's play park and sports field just opposite the cottage which includes an excellent tennis court. All are available for guests to use.
Interaction with guests
We provide a small welcome pack which includes some tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, butter, home-made jam, home made small cakes and a bottle of wine. We usually try and greet guests on their day of arrival - but let you get on with enjoying your holiday thereafter .. unless you need some input from us.
Other things to note
We welcome well behaved dogs and cats at no extra charge. Please check with us first if you would like to bring more than 2 furry friends with you.
