Unplug from hectic life and travel a two-lane road to the "Quiet Side" of the Ozarks where Cabin on The Creek awaits you in southeastern Missouri. Rocking chairs on the porch, a crystal clear babbling brook right out the front door. This private setting features a bunkhouse style cabin with 4 twin beds, full bath, huge windows, eclectic decor, med size mini fridge, microwave, campfire with one wheelbarrow full free firewood, gas grill, picnic table. Close to rivers, nat'l lands, state parks.

The space

While there is both air conditioning and heat available in the cabin, you can throw open the big windows and be surrounded by fresh mountain breezes and sounds of the forest including owls, whippoorwills, mourning doves, tree frogs, bull frogs and hundreds of birds.
Kick back, relax. A yoga mat is provided if you'd like to find your Zen on the porch overlooking the creek.

Please enjoy a glass of wine, and view millions of stars from the night-time, zero-light-pollution sky. The Milky Way is amazing. Know your zodiac signs when you come….because you can see them ALL from here. Plus you can see the many satellites orbiting the earth across this sky.

Guest access

While you’re here, feel free to look around, travel the paths of our little homestead we’ve cut out of the woods. Our other projects include the Writing Cottage, Wood Shed, the Happy Camper, the Garden, the Not-Quite-A-Tiny House …. and lots of other things to ponder. Enjoy yourself.

Interaction with guests

We live on this property, and we are available as needed. We are currently building a slightly-larger-than-tiny house. Feel free to ask us for a tour.

Other things to note

- Please note we are NOT near Branson, MO, or Lake of the Ozarks. We are on the OPPOSITE SIDE of Missouri from Branson. We're located on the "quiet" side of the Ozarks, on the eastern side of the state, about one hour from the Mississippi River.
- To get to the cabin there is a small low-water creek crossing, in case of extreme rain (flood level), the creek is sometimes too high to cross. This rarely happens.
- Cancellations must be 5 full days in advance to receive refund.
- One (1) COMPLETELY FREE large, piled-high wheelbarrow load of firewood, kindling and lighter fluid IS PROVIDED for each group. This will easily supply two nights of cozy campfire unless you dump the entire wheelbarrow load of wood onto the fire at once and build a roaring huge 8ft tall inferno bonfire (yeah, we've had some people do that).
Additional firewood is available for purchase for $15 per wheelbarrow load from hosts.
Guests may NOT enter and take firewood from host's private woodsheds (yeah, sadly some folks steal it).
Firewood is NOT to be collected or cut from grounds (yeah, some folks tried to cut down a tree in our yard for firewood).
Firewood CANNOT be brought in (Iron Co law due to ash bore beetle transfer). If you want massive fires, or plan to have fires for multiple night's stay...plan to buy more wood from the host for $15 per wheelbarrow load.

We don’t have very many rules, and the rules we do have are brought about only because of the shaking-our-head moments due to actions of some of our previous guests!!! (eye roll). They are as follows:
One (1) COMPLETELY FREE large, piled-high wheelbarrow load of firewood, kindling and lighter fluid IS PROVIDED for each group. This will easily supply two nights of cozy campfire unless you dump the entire wheelbarrow load of wood onto the fire at once and build a roaring huge 8ft tall inferno bonfire (yeah, we've had some people do that).

Smoking/vaping is not allowed in the cabin or on the porch of the cabin. Smoking area available 25ft from cabin in the campfire circle area.
Cabin is not suitable for children 0-2 years.
No pets.
If you bring kiddos you need to supervise them, and they need to stay in the vicinity of the cabin. There is a large play area beside the cabin complete with huge logs for climbing which your children are welcome to play on. And feel free to play in the creek above and below the cabin.
Please note if you have kids: porch is open (no rails), creek is accessible, firepit is ground level, bunkbeds have half rails.
No cooking/frying is allowed inside the cabin or on porch of cabin (such as on your own griddle or hotplate). If you bring a griddle or a hotplate, you can use it in the outside parking area. Or feel free to use the gas grill. Grill has one side burner and utensils are provided.
Crafts involving paints, markers, glue, glitter, etc cannot be brought into the cabin or decorated on the porch of the cabin. There is a large table by the fire pit which is perfect for crafting projects and the messes created by them.
We always try to leave the spaces we stay in better than we found them....and we believe our guests will do the same.

You must also acknowledge
Must climb stairs - 3 steps to cabin porch. Bunkbeds have ladders. Bringing kiddos? Note: porch open (no rails), creek accessible, firepit ground level.
Pet(s) live on property - We have two friendly dogs who will bark when you arrive. Once they give you a sniff, they are fine.
Amenity limitations - Experience UNPLUGGING! No internet service, no cell service here in the woods. Cell service available at top of hill, 2 min drive.

Our son and daughter-in-love absolutely loved their stay at the Cabin by the Creek. They loved being able to rock on the porch or sit by the fire enjoying each other’s company. Having no internet connection or cell phone service was a huge plus for them. It was so nice for them to disconnect from the world for two days. Rhresa and Evan were amazing hosts! They enjoyed great conversation and are so excited for their next stay at the Cabin!

Response from Evan & Rhesa:
Our country is in good hands with leaders like these young people. Very much enjoyed your "kids", Lisa. What stellar examples of great attitude, fortitude and progress in these young adults. We left that fireside chat inspired. Thanks for choosing Cabin on the Creek, and we look forward to seeing them again soon. Evan and Rhesa Funk

This was exactly what our 7 year old city kid was looking for...a slice of country life out of a story book (but much better). Unplugging for a few days, catching Sun Perch on his very first try at Big Creek around the corner on 49 (on Evan's recommendation), hanging out with Buddy at the fire, conquering Elephant Rocks, relaxing in the water at Johnson Shut-ins, getting an Old Heifer burger from Mel's Diner (also on Evan & Rhesa's recommendation) and just generally letting plans make themselves. They have Airbnb down to an art form & we can't wait to come back and pick up where we left off.

Response from Evan & Rhesa:
We're so glad to be part of the story, Chris! Thanks for choosing Cabin on the Creek. It was fun to hear your little one having so much fun, and we're glad all the local attractions were just what you were looking for - you found some of the hidden gems of this part of the Southeastern Missouri Ozarks! We appreciate your business and hope to see you soon on a return visit.

You and yours are in for an absolutely wonderful experience at Cabin on the Creek. From the moment we arrived, we knew we were some place very special. No doubt the genuinely warm reception by our hosts helped to set the tone, but the picture perfect front porch, with its three rocking chairs & flickering white lights outlining the roof above, was the real "welcome." And we instantly felt right at home. The bunkhouse was simply delightful in every single way. There was such attention paid to detail in every direction we looked, from construction to design to decor. In fact, new discoveries of hidden nooks & special little touches were still being made while we were packing up to head home! The Bunkhouse, to quote our 7 yr old, "It's a mind blower!" It was as if Rhesa & Evan had anticipated our every want or need. Clear bottled remedies like aloe vera & witch hazel lined the bathroom shelf and pocket flashlights stood at the ready right by the door. Have you ever seen a 3 x 12" cutting board? You'll find one here, tucked into the corner of the kitchen area. Even a bundle of small cloths were on the porch should we need to wipe away the dew from our chairs. The bedding was incredibly comfortable, the mini frig seriously roomy, & the water pressure/temp most definitely delivered & then some. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here 'unplugging' as a family. We read, drew, told stories, played games (they've got you covered if you leave yours at home), fed the fish, explored the creek, cooked smores by the fire, & just enjoyed shootin' the breeze on the front porch while listening to nature's soundtrack. A short 15-20 drive took us to Sam A. Baker State Park for a good 'ol fashioned picnic & really awesome hike. We opted out of fishing, swimming, or biking while there, but now know all that park has to offer. Other points of interest within a short drive are Johnson's Shut-Ins & Elephant Rocks State Park. Rhesa & Evan are exceptional hosts & happy to help out or answer any questions that you might have. They are very accessible, but always mindful of your privacy. They are incredibly generous of spirit & just all-around good people. The time we spent together at Cabin on the Creek was extremely good medicine for our family. We believe it would be for you & yours, as well. You owe it to yourself (& to your family/friends) to have a little stay here just as soon as you get the chance.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a thorough review, it helps us very much as it gives our next guests an idea of what to expect. We do hope to see you again soon. Thanks for your lovely "art" gifts. Very special! You all "touched" us.

We came for a weekend getaway and what we got was a relaxing weekend away. We got in and were greeted by the Funks. The cabin was amazing. Had everything you need and more. From cotton balls to dishwashing soap, they thought of it all!! We grilled some food our first night there and hung out with the Funks by the fire, chatting, telling stories, and getting to know each other. They gave us great advise to what we could do the next day. They are extremely knowledgeable about the area. Everything is about a half hour away from the Cabin and really easy to find once cell service was available. The beds are REALLY comfy, we could have slept for days! We couldn't have asked for a better place to get away from it all. So comfortable and quiet. We sat in the rocking chairs by the creek and just listened to nature. Buddy the dog kept us company and was part of the family right away. We will for sure be back. We hiked the difficult and rugged 3 mile Mina Salk Falls since it rained the night before. We also got to explore Johnson Shut-In's and Elephant Rocks State Park. We love the outdoors and can't wait to come back. The Funks gave us really good fishing spots to check out and the directions were on point. Love how Air B and B brings people together like this. Thank you thank you to the Funks. Disconnecting was the perfect way for my wife and I to spend our weekend. We are in love and in awe of this place and can't wait to see more.

Oh Travis and Knyree....thanks for such a heartfelt review. We're honored you chose Cabin on the Creek for your getaway, and we're very glad you had such a wonderful time in our neck of the woods. A hidden gem here in the southeastern Ozark Mountains - we were happy to help you out with some backwoods fishing locations and little-known hiking areas. Awesome that it all turned out so spectacular. You all were fun to meet and get to know. Thanks for inviting us to your fire. Hope to see you again soon.

Our favorite things during our stay... Charlotte (8 yrs) - catching fish and crawdads in the creek, petting Zippy and Buddy, learning about beavers from Rhesa. Carson (10 yrs) - bunk beds, feeding the fish, campfire. Jenny - morning coffee on the porch, story of shed transformation, never have to say "I wish they had...." Jeff - No internet/computer/electronics, hearing a whippoorwill, chatting with Evan and Rhesa about life and all the work and projects that have gone into this property. Thanks for your generous hospitality. Our very first awesome Airbnb experience.

We’re a writer and a carpenter. We’re outdoor lovers and adventurists. We both mostly work from home, so someone is almost always here. When we purchased these eight acres we had only a massive forest and two crystal clear creeks; we are turning it into an oasis of happiness one little project at a time. We love motorcycle camping trips, outdoor excursions, campfires, dream chasing and building stuff. We are currently collecting “junk” as we hope to soon turn our creative skills towards metal sculpture. We abide by the motto, "How we spend our days is how we live our lives"... and we believe in living life to the fullest always and all ways. We reside on this property in a little travel trailer while we build our Not-Quite-A-Tiny House in our spare time. Our little bunkhouse, Cabin on The Creek, is the place we created to provide serenity and peace for our visitors.
