About this listing
Located in a quiet and friendly village, this fully furnished house will accommodate guests who wish to avoid the crowd of tourists. It is just a few hundred yards from several beaches notable for their impressive cliffs.
Since April 2017, I've fitted the house with a wi-fi portable modem. You will pay for your own internet use through recharge cards available from near-by shops.
The house includes a veranda, a spacious living-room, two bedrooms, an equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with hot water. It is surrounded by a flowery yard, where cars can easily be parked and children play.
In April 2017 I fitted the main bedroom with air conditioning.
The house is just a few hundred yards from the shops and the local market.
The guests will have full access to the entire house and area around it, including an outside shower and toilet.
The house is fully provided with linen (bedding, towels, tablecloth and napkins).
Interaction with guests
I'll be glad to welcome you personally and help you explore the region.
Right in the village, there are several restaurants, serving local and Western food. One of them is particularly pleasant, because it's right on the beach and has wifi access.
But whenever you wish to eat home, meals can be provided at an additional cost. An easy and great way to enjoy home-made Senegalese dishes and delicacies ( I'm known to be a very good cook!).
A laundry service can be organized as well.
My family has lived in Popenguine for several generations, and I know almost everyone there; it's in the usual, warm and friendly run of things to greet and be greeted at every step in the streets, which will also happen to you, even though you've only just arrived!
So you may feel you're very far from home, and yet feel that you're not a stranger.
In fact a number of European or North American pensioners have chosen to settle in Popenguine.
There's transportation to the village by shared taxis or minibuses; however, if you want to travel more comfortably, it's better that you hire a private taxi. I can help you find one.
Other things to note
There's now an expressway from Dakar to Sindia (10km from Popenguine). From Sindia to Popenguine you then follow a newly-made dual carriage-way to Popenguine.
If you wish to explore the area, there's a dirt road along the coast as far as Toubab Diallao.
You can easily hire taxis on demand. The fare from Dakar airport to Popenguine is about 30, 000 FCFA or 45 euros. Should you need it, I can contact taxi-drivers for you.
Cancel up to 5 days before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.
