I am far beyond glad to find Sarah's guesthouse in Airbnb! It's situated in Waingapu city yet the surrounding atmosphere is peaceful and calm, but not boring. There are 'ikat' textile weavers within the compound and a horse race arena nearby. The bamboo hut is simple and charming, without compromising the comfort of a proper guesthouse (shower, fridge, reading lamp, water kettle available). The beaches are reachable by motorbike. But what makes this house really special is Sarah herself, her love and knowledge of Sumba and her lovely family. I'll definitely stay here in my next trip!

Sarah and her family were super welcoming and helped us a lot to start our Sumba experience, such as rented a scooter and provided us very useful information what to do and where to go. The bungalow is lovely, quiet and it was clean and a huge balcony presents one with a gorgeous sunset. The dinner was scrumptious that we had with the family and Sarah bakes the bread in Indonesia:) I can recommend this accommodation to anyone, great value price.

I had an amazing 3 night stay at Praikamaru! I was picked up at the airport and as soon as I arrived was invited to a funeral in a nearby village. :) I loved staying in the traditional sumbanese house, the sunsets were beautiful, and loved having my breakfasts on the verandah. The best thing of all is that Sarah and her whole family are really lovely. I felt taken care of. Sarah was also very helpful in arranging logistics in Sumba, drivers. And was prompt to respond to my many questions before and after booking.

Great stay! Sumba certainly is not for first time Indonesia travelers, but I had a good time. Sarah's place is very peaceful. No AC, but with the windows open you get a really nice breeze. It's a very authentic Indonesian experience. Sarah is super knowledgable abouy Sumba culture. If you have any questions about where to go, Sarah can lead you in the right direction and even provide transport. Everyone is super warm and friendly in the village. Why spend a million rupiah on a tourist trap? Stay at this house! You won't regret it.

Interaction with guests

There is always someone at the main house if you have any questions or issues, I love to chat to guests and help them to get to know about Sumba when I'm around (most mornings and evenings).

About Sarah

Umbu Ndjurumanna (Uman), Sarah Hobgen, our son Jack the extended family are your hosts in Prailiu. Uman's family have lived here for many generations, but Sarah is a relative newcomer having been in Sumba for about 7 years (originally from Australia).

We are keen to introduce you to the sights and sounds of Sumba, with a comfortable place to retreat to, for a good night's sleep (or afternoon nap!).
