Unplug and unwind in our off-grid horsebox here at Lackan Cottage Farm, in the beautiful County Down countryside with great views of the Mourne Mountains. Tucked away in a private corner of our smallholding, this truck - once our home - has been lovingly refurbished with recycled and local materials. A cosy, comfy hideaway you won't want to leave. This is proper off grid life, so no mains power, and no wifi.

The space

The truck has a well equipped kitchen, full size gas cooker and large dining area with plenty of storage, as well as a wood or gas heated shower. The cosy living room has a woodburning stove, and the box bed looks out of a large circular window with views of the fields and mountains beyond.

There are LED lights throughout, powered by solar panels - this is true off-grid living.

Even the outdoor compost toilet - a few yards from the truck, had a great view. The truck has 12volt sockets for phone charging, but this is a proper off-grid getaway and you won't find wifi or mains electricity. There is also no fridge, but we provide a cool box which can be plugged into the truck, and ice packs can be changed daily.

Guest access

You'll have your own private deck area to sit out and admire the views, and guests are welcome to explore the farm, walk in our private woodlands, and vegetable gardens.

Interaction with guests

We live and work on site, and are always happy to show visitors around, as well as providing information on places to visit during their stay.

Other things to note

The truck has an outside compost toilet, which is just nearby.

Awesome place to stay to get away from city life. So quiet and idyllic. I choose this location to propose to my partner and she loved it even more than I could have imagined. So tranquil and excellent value for money, it is the ideal place to go and unwind, relax and for something different away from it all

Absolutely recommend the experience If you are after getting away from the busy city life and want to reconnect with nature. You couldn't find a better spot to do this. And there's no words to describe how cosy it is with the fire lit in the bedroom while it's raining outside. It was an all round wonderful experience. We will be back :)

Absolutely amazing experience. Cosy, peaceful and an amazing setting. Claire and Steve are so inspirational in their self sustainable approach and Missy is such a sweetheart! Our go to place for a break to recharge the batteries and 'detox' from all things digital! Perfect!

This was the perfect, chilled out weekend getaway, having had a stressful few weeks beforehand. The location was amazing and there was something very special about waking up to the sound of roosters with a stunning view. We were hugely impressed by the level of sustainability shown and really enjoyed the eco friendly aspects of the weekend. 100% recommend to everyone! :)

I love living on this wee small holding, working organically with nature, growing fruit and veg, plants for pollinators and other creatures, creating a haven for wildlife. I live here with my husband and daughter, dog, cats, horses and chickens.
