Description

The space

The Apple House is a cosy holiday home for two in a converted apple store. Sympathetically restored to keep the character of the building with exposed beams, lofty ceilings and cottage windows. There is an open plan living room with kitchen, dining and seating areas. The whole house is wheelchair accessible with wide doors and wet room.

The Apple House is the perfect location to explore the beautiful Somerset countryside. Situated on the edge of The Mendip Hills and Somerset Levels with RSPB reserves you have fantastic walking straight from the door. Slightly further away you have the beautiful City of Wells or spectacular Cheddar Gorge (both 4 miles). If you don't want to go in the car you can always catch the bus! The seaside is not so far away at Weston Super Mare and the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath or cosmopolitan Bristol are just 45 minutes drive.

Westbury Sub Mendip has all that you would expect in an English village. The all important pub, church, village shop, post office and school. You are on the bus route between Wells and Weston super Mare. The nearest railway station is at Worle with direct trains to London and Bath. Bristol International Airport is 40 mins away.

Not a very clean cottage, very disappointing and smelled terribly. Definitely not worth the kind of prices paid!

Response from Linda:
It is not our intention, nor that of Air BnB that we should meet every person who stays. Indeed we are aware that very few other Air bnb owners do. When Malcolm did meet Margaret and her husband they said that it was " all brilliant" and they were having a good time. There is no carpet in the cottage as all floors are wooden and the guidance explains that bins may be emptied into larger containers in the yar should that be necessary

You're in for a treat, the studio is small but nicely proportioned. We had no problem with the combination oven. Wells was great but the real treat was the starlings at the local nature reserve.

After staying in numerous cottages throughout Wales and England we were rather disappointed in the condition of this property and felt it could do with refurbishment. There is no oven apart from a microwave and a hob which was unusable. The location of the cottage is good for visiting Wells, Cheddar gorge etc.

Response from Linda:
When we saw her on the day before they left will's wife said "everything is fine and we are warm and comfortable" As stated in the description there is a combination oven/microwave with a user booklet, also a slow cooker anda 4 ring hob. I am sorry if Will found it difficult to use them. The previous occupants said they had a lovely time and it was perfect!

This was a sweet little cottage with all that you need to feel at home :) the kitchen with multi function microwave was handy as we stayed for most of the week. Sadly the pub wasn't open while we were there so it was a bit of a drive to anywhere to eat out. We loved visiting Wells (15 min drive) and enjoyed the surrounding area, continually marveling at the beauty of the English countryside.

Made us both feel very welcome. We had a proper midweek break and used this as a base to explore the lovely area

Response from Linda:
In autumn in the country, under trees you must expect spiders and midges I am afraid! The wet room which at present is accessible for any ability is to be changed back to an " ordinary " bathroom during our closed winter months.

My husband Malcolm and I have lived in Westbury Sub Mendip for 18 years. It is a great village with a lovely community. We really enjoy being in the countryside and can let you know all our favourite local walks. Malcolm even compiled them in a book of some time ago. We enjoy eating out and would be pleased to recommend local restaurants to try.
