Valerie's place is full of character and an absolute gem. It couldn't be located better, right next to the restaurants and castle on top of the hill. The flat is huge and the terrace is wonderful with the best views. Valerie was very kind to wait for us and arranged her keys and instructions so that we had a smooth stay. We had full use of her kitchen and enjoyed the place very much. The flat is historic so it is charming but it shows its age. I would absolutely recommend it to couples, friends or families with older children. Not ideal for younger kids as it has a few small items lying around but otherwise fab. Merci Valerie!

We wished we had booked a longer stay at Valerie's place! We planned a brief two night stay in Pau for the Tour de France, but didn't expect to enjoy the town so much. We will likely return again with a rental car so that we can explore the area - and we will definitely try to stay at Valerie's apartment next time. Valerie provided us with so much great information about the town including restaurants and things to do in Pau before our arrival. She even picked up local Tour de France route maps and left them in the apartment for us. From the moment Josy, Valerie's mom's friend met us at the apartment, we felt very welcome in her apartment. Valerie left us a bottle of chilled Jurancon, the white wine produced in the local region. She walked us through and showed us how everything worked - every home has it's nuances. The patio is delightful and where we spent most of our time enjoying the lovely weather. The apartment is steps from delicious restaurants, wine bars, boulangeries, cafes, anything you need/want. There are a couple of beautiful parks that we walked through in town - one by the Chateau and one is Parc Beaumont. There is a jam store just to the right of the apartment building entrance that is super. My son is currently living in Beijing, found a great Chinese restaurant close by, and brought take-out one night for dinner on the patio that was fabulous. There were four of us traveling - my husband and I plus our son and his partner. The apartment had two bedrooms, one full bathroom with a shower and a washer in one of the bedrooms and one half bathroom off the kitchen. This set-up proved perfectly adequate for our family. The kitchen had everything we needed - plus my son is able to make wonderful coffee in any kind of coffee maker which is a plus for our family! We took the train into and out of Pau. The train station is down below the main part of town, but there is a no cost funicular that takes you up the hill to the town. We took the funicular from the train station up to the town, and then walked with our rolling bags the 3-4 blocks to the apartment. It was a very easy walk. Josy met us to check us out and she insisted on driving us back to the train station because we had an early train out to San Sebastian. She was so very sweet and thoughtful. We had a very special visit to Pau - and much of it was due to our great stay at Valerie's apartment!
