Where you’ll be

Serramazzoni, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Immersed in a green valley, six kilometers from the capital (Serramazzoni) and three from New Estense, is Valle. The village has important buildings dating back to the sixteenth century: the church, dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, fall into disrepair in the early nineteenth century, was rebuilt in 1868 on the project of Ing. Vandelli. Valle was an ancient fortified, once the site of the castle of Balugola. Here the family Balugola owned a building which still exists although partially modified. The towers had to be two: one of these was located in front of the building that collapsed in 1950, while the other one located not far from the building and which remains today only a part, has been transformed into the barn. This fraction is to be remembered also for the production of silkworms reared until 1936. From Valle mature cocoons were brought in Sassuolo and then be shipped to mills in Lombardy.
We are also in the heart of the famous traditional cuisine of Emilia-Romagna with its production of Balsamic vinegar and wine known all over the world. Taking two steps to the village you can find yourself at the foot of an ancient 1300dc castle, or enjoy a great traditional meal served in the restaurants Valle and La Balugola that are known throughout the area for quality and the original menu Which decays the Emilian tradition. “Tigelle”, “crescentine”, fried dumplings and excellent bunny rabbit are some of the local specialties. All the surrounding area offers high quality food at reasonable prices.

1.The village and the woods of Faeto (Four kilometers from the capital among centuries-old oaks and chestnut woods).

2.La via Vandelli (The ancient commercial and military road of the Duchy of Modena).

3.Bucamante Waterfalls (Five natural waterfalls and rare specimens of flora in one of the most beautiful and evocative naturalistic oases of the Modena hills).
4.Rocca di Vignola is one of the most interesting examples of fortified architecture in the Region. Built as a defensive structure, during the lordship of the Contrari it was transformed into a sumptuous residence rich in decorations and frescoes.

5.The organic winery "Cantina del Frignano"
Small organic winery with high quality targeted production. the company has completed the organic conversion process. The following products are on sale: still red wines, sparkling white, rosé and red wines of the Ancestral Method, Classic Method Sparkling Wines and Balsamic Vinegar of Modena.

6.Castello di Monfestino - Beautiful medieval village with its beautiful strategic position to watch over the valley between the Secchia and Panaro rivers. Its origins date back to the 11th century and belonged to the Balugola family (feudal lords of the area). Surrounded by greenery and the destination of many cyclists and paragliding lovers who have a take-off base in the neighboring fields. Quiet place for a Sunday afternoon.
