James booked a room for 10 nights. The communication was fairly poor from the moment he booked. He arrived with an unannounced guest (he did not mention this when he explained why he wanted to rent a room). He thought he rent the entire flat, even though the ad clearly states it's a room (never had any issues before). I explained that I also live at the flat and I don't want unannounced guests in my home without prior approval. I offered for his guest to stay during the first day, but explained that the room and flat access is for him only. I don't want random people to come “hang” or party at my home. I said if he wanted that, then he didn't book the right flat. He then left without saying anything while I was in my bedroom and cancelled the reservation.
Shortly after he left, I received message from the Airbnb Trip Team said that James has contacted them and reported there was a cleanliness issue when he arrived. I was absolutely shocked and disgusted by this accusation! This was clearly an excuse to get his money back and abandon the booking. Apart from my home always being sparkly clean, I am the one who should make a complaint. James and his unannounced guest ignored my house rules and wore their shoes at my home. There are now black stains on the carpet which I can’t remove... Even thought they only stayed for less than half an hour.
He should have communicated with me. We could have figured out a solution if he wanted to stay. Instead, James lied to get his money back. This is the worst experience I have had as a host so far.
Furthermore, the last thing I want to advise James is that you should never gossip about your host at their home. It’s really disrespectful. If you do, at least keep your voice low.
This is the first (and I hope the last!) time I have written a bad review, but unfortunately James left me with no other option.
