Shore Leave is a river front 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2000 square foot, single level ranch builit in 1992. Located on a private court with 4 other houses, and just 1 mile from old town Florence. Walk, bike or drive and you'll be there in minutes. On the river side of the house, you'll find stunning views of the Siuslaw and dunes, a private stairway down to a sandy beach to walk and relax on, plus a hiking trail for you and your furry friends.
The Florence municipal airport is just 1.1 mile from the house, fly your private plane in and a courtesy car and bicycles are available.
The Living, Dining & Kitchen are all one room, looking out on the marvelous dunes & Siuslaw river. The table seats 6, and the Bar seats 2.There is a wood stove that will be cozy and romantic for those stormy days. There is a Jenn-Aire range, a dishwasher, large refrigerator and all the usual amenities that come with a well stocked kitchen.
As you know we only have a few houses with garages. The 2 car garage will hold your vintage car for Rhody Days or Rods & Rhodies, the 6 Harleys you're cruising up the coast with friends, or your detached boat or ATV trailer. No on street parking - Your trailer must be in the driveway.
The master bedroom has a king bed, a private door to the deck, a large walk in closet, ensuite bathroom with shower. It also includes a sitting area, and a twin sofa sleeper. The 2nd bedroom has a queen bed with a cable TV, and the 3rd bedroom has a full sized bed. Those bedrooms have the bathroom across the hall with a shower/tub combo. There is a large laundry room with full size washer & dryer. You'll find an expansive deck, a fenced yard, and a side deck that is glass walled to protect you from those windy summer days, we sometimes experience.
Shore Leave was the retirement home of Brigadier General Benjamin King. He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. General King was qualified in many aircraft including the T-33, the supersonic F-106 Delta Dart, A-1E, B-26, C-47, AT-28, P-38, P-51, P-80 and others. He flew combat in three wars and accumulated more than 6,000 hours of flying time, including 1,146 combat hours logged in 400 combat missions. His decorations included the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with 24 oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart and the French Croix de Guerre. Four F-15s from the Oregon Air National Guard, Klamath Falls, Oregon gave BG King a missing man fly-by in his hometown of Florence, Oregon on 20 October 2004. It was a tribute to one of our great warriors. (I happened to be on Hwy 101 that day, and it's something those of us who witnessed it will never forget.)
You'll find some amazing historical items, and wonderful art from his travels around the world as his heirs wanted to share this with everyone. The amazing part is he could have retired anywhere in the world, and he chose Florence, spend some time here, and we think you'll understand why as well.

Whales Watch Vacation Rentals is a small family-owned business specializing in comfortable, privately-owned vacation homes. The owners are people just like yourself, and we know you'll treat their homes with the same pride and care that you do your own.
We have lived here at Heceta Beach since 1994. Our house is a duplex, we live in half and the other half is our vacation rental. We enjoy sharing with others what we get to enjoy every day. My husband was from Milwaukee Wisconsin, via Texas & Alaska. And I was originally from Northern, then Southern California. We fell in love with the small town atmosphere, and the temperate climate. It may be rainy, but you don't have to shovel rain, and the Ocean Breezes keep it an even 70 in the summer.
