Gache Gache Lodge is a self-catering fishing & photographic lodge across lake Kariba on the Gache Gache River. Kariba is a 5hr drive from Harare. The lodge is another 2hr drive (60km) on a dirt road (4x4), OR hire a speedboat that we can arrange which takes an hour from Marineland in Kariba. Chalets are open in front (bars only) and ensuite. Comfortable but very rustic. (Basic standard.) Come and relax with us and fish or chill by the splash pool. NO shops anywhere at all so come fully prepared.
Gache is a natural wildlife area great for fishing during the hotter months of the year. Game viewing only if arranged in advance as a fully qualified pro-guide is needed by law.
Respect the wildlife please! Hippo do roam around the lodge eating the grass when it is quiet.
No walking outside the lodge area at all or self game driving. It is illegal.
Crocodiles are prolific and dangerous. DO NOT go near the edge of the water at all.
You can access the pool (we try and keep it clean but very often due to the elements it is not possible).
You can access the bar and dining areas. Drinks are extra.
You can access the verandahs.
A bedroom hand will make beds and clean each day.
A Chef and Waiter/Barman is available to cook your food and serve it up at regular meal times. A braai/barbeque can be arranged.
Boat for hire. Fishing rods for hire but bring own tackle and worms for bait.
Interaction with guests
Our staff will be there to assist.
Other things to note
It is difficult to get to the lodge from overseas. Make sure you know where we are and allow a night in Harare either side of the booking as you must not travel at night on these roads. You cannot cross the lake after 4pm latest, but mostly boat transfers from Kariba leave at 1pm latest.
Pre book the hire boat if you need a transfer by speedboat from Marineland. I can do this for you.
If self-driving allow 2hrs - it is a dirt road and fairly rough in places so you need a 4x4 vehicle.
You will be charged National Parks fees at Marineland and also car parking fees.
Bring a flashlight!
No shops at all in the area!!!! Bring everything you need with you! including sunblock, hats, mosquito repellent etc.
We mostly use USD cash (or our local bond notes) currently. You can swipe at the lodge for extras such as wi-fi or drinks and activities.
No electricity at the lodge but we use GENERATOR power. 220V, square or 2 pin plugs.

My husband and I have been in the tourism industry for over 30 years in Zimbabwe. We have two daughters and 2 grandsons! I have a lot of energy and enjoy meeting new people. We are not based at the lodge... we have staff that will be there to see to your needs. Hope that you have a lot of fun and enjoy your stay.
