House rules
This place isn’t suitable for children under 12 and the host doesn’t allow pets, parties, or smoking.
Named for its close proximity to Acadia Mountain in Acadia National Park, a stay at the Acadia Room in Hall Quarry includes a spacious, private room, and a cozy porch in a peaceful, wooded neighborhood. Located on the “quiet side” of Mount Desert Island, our guests will enjoy hiking, boating, fishing, swimming and the wonderful shops, galleries and eateries of Southwest Harbor. Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, and Acadia’s Park Loop Road are a quick 20 minutes away.

The space
The spacious and sunny bedroom is fully furnished with a comfortable queen size tempurpedic bed, an easy chair with ottoman, two bedside stands, a bureau, 32” TV and a walk-in closet that provides additional space for your travel items.

Our guests will have private access to a front porch at the entryway, and a common foyer and full bathroom on the second floor adjacent to their private bedroom. The front porch is a relaxing, peaceful space where our guests can enjoy their morning coffee or relax in the afternoon. The common foyer has a refrigerator (tall dorm size) and microwave for their private use and Keurig for coffee and tea to enjoy whenever they like.

Our home is located between Somes Sound to the east and Echo Lake to the west, and about halfway between picturesque Somesville to the north and charming Southwest Harbor to the south.

Southwest Harbor, the largest municipality on the “quiet side,” is located just 5 miles south of Hall Quarry. The town boasts some excellent shops, galleries and eateries as well as an emerging music scene. Bikes and kayaks can be rented in Southwest Harbor.

Acadia National Park, one of the most popular national parks in the United States, consumes about half of Mount Desert Island. Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Otter Cliff, Jordan Pond, and Cadillac Mountain, are easily accessible by a 20-25 minute drive. Closer to Hall Quarry are Echo Lake and Echo Lake Beach, Seawall, Beech Cliffs, and the Bass Harbor Lighthouse which are within a 5-15 minute drive from our home.

If you like to hike, we can point you towards easy, flat, “ocean” hikes along the southern coastline, or more challenging “mountain” hikes with outstanding views of Somes Sound, Echo Lake, and Long Pond. The Acadia, St. Sauveur, Flying Mountain range, with gorgeous views of Somes Sound, can be accessed via unmarked trails from our home.

If you like to kayak or canoe, we can guide you to all the drops on the island, including Echo Lake (Ike’s Point), Long Pond (both north and south), Seal Cove Pond and Somes Pond. As our guest, you will have access to our town’s private boat launch in Somesville where you can put in and explore the northern reaches of Somes Sound.

If you like to fish, we can suggest some excellent haunts for both shore and boat fishing in Long, Seal Cove, and Somes Ponds (smallmouth) and Echo Lake (landlocked salmon & trout).

If you like to bike, we can suggest great loops along the famed carriage trails one of most popular attractions in Acadia National Park.

We have lots of info/maps/hiking guides/excursion brochures/restaurant recommendations for you.

Guest access
We offer for our guests a private entry into the house which leads to the guest quarters on the second floor. Guests will have private use of the front porch at the entryway, a common foyer and full bathroom on the second floor. The guest room has a lock for privacy and security. Please note, there is one other bedroom on the second floor which may be occupied by other guests.

We live in private quarters on the first floor with our two dogs Lucy and Sargent.

Guests staying more than 4 days will have access to our washer and dryer.

We are happy to accommodate your bikes and kayaks so you don’t have to cart them around the island during your sightseeing.

A walk around our wooded neighborhood on private, unpaved roads (a peaceful ¾ mile loop our favorite) reveals remnants of the bygone quarrying era. All around are piles of chipped granite peering through a half century of overgrowth, remnant quarry ponds of varying sizes and shapes, and massive granite blocks standing guard over all.

My wife, Joanna, and I enjoy hiking the trails in Acadia National Park with a goal of hiking all of them. We also like biking the carriage roads in Acadia and kayaking on the ponds and lakes as well as the coastline. We both love to cook and bake. In my spare time, I fish and trail run. We have a two dogs, Lucy and Sargent. We are looking forward to meeting our guests and helping them to find and enjoy all Mount Desert Island has to offer!
