We had such a wonderful time at the Devonport Loft! Clive and Kate (Jane's parents who were hosting while she was out of town) were so gracious and welcoming. They gave us lots of useful tips on where to eat dinner, have a sunset swim, and neighborhood history.
The space was even nicer than the photos, and our sunny stay was warm and breezy. We had morning tea and cookies (sweetly provided for us) on the balcony amongst the grapevines and buzzing bees after sleeping great in the very comfortable bed. It's just right for a couple and had more than we needed in the kitchen. We didn't have enough time to eat a meal in, but with two sets of tables and chairs (one in, one out) there would have been plenty of space and they were outfitted with all the utensils you need. The temp was still fairly warm in the evening while we were there so we left the balcony door open with the curtain closed and didn't need to use the mosquito netting on the bed, but it was nice they had the option.
The beach they recommended was great and we did both an evening swim and a morning hike along it up to North Head, an old volcano with a beautiful lookout. They were flexible about our departure time, which gave us a little extra exploration time in the morning, and Clive was even kind enough to give us a ride to the ferry terminal with our luggage. On the way he drove us up to Mount Victoria where there was an even more amazing view of the whole city of Auckland. The only sad part was that we only had one day to enjoy the neighborhood. Truly excellent hosts! We loved Devonport and hope to return someday.
