Jane made us feel very welcome. She introduces us to her family. At the same time, she respected our privacy at all times. The listing description was accurate. The place had everything we need. Jane even borrowed a portacot for our son and guided us around. The neighbourhood was perfect. The beach is located within 3 minutes walking distance, there are two very nice coffee places, nice hiking possibilities and a big supermarket on the corner. In fact, we liked the place so much, that we are planning to go back in a few days...

We had such a wonderful time at the Devonport Loft! Clive and Kate (Jane's parents who were hosting while she was out of town) were so gracious and welcoming. They gave us lots of useful tips on where to eat dinner, have a sunset swim, and neighborhood history. The space was even nicer than the photos, and our sunny stay was warm and breezy. We had morning tea and cookies (sweetly provided for us) on the balcony amongst the grapevines and buzzing bees after sleeping great in the very comfortable bed. It's just right for a couple and had more than we needed in the kitchen. We didn't have enough time to eat a meal in, but with two sets of tables and chairs (one in, one out) there would have been plenty of space and they were outfitted with all the utensils you need. The temp was still fairly warm in the evening while we were there so we left the balcony door open with the curtain closed and didn't need to use the mosquito netting on the bed, but it was nice they had the option. The beach they recommended was great and we did both an evening swim and a morning hike along it up to North Head, an old volcano with a beautiful lookout. They were flexible about our departure time, which gave us a little extra exploration time in the morning, and Clive was even kind enough to give us a ride to the ferry terminal with our luggage. On the way he drove us up to Mount Victoria where there was an even more amazing view of the whole city of Auckland. The only sad part was that we only had one day to enjoy the neighborhood. Truly excellent hosts! We loved Devonport and hope to return someday.

This was a fantastic place to stay. Its a studio upstairs in a detached unit from the main house. The family has put in some lovely touches to make the place feel very charming and welcoming. As well they were very considerate in offering bath robes, organic muesli, and milk. It is a 15-20 minute walk into the shops, restaurants, and ferry terminal. Making it super convenient. As well just head out the door and you can wander down to the beach in 5-10 minutes. Plenty of lovely places to wander. The kitchenette is limited but is more than enough for continental breakfasts and preparing food for snacks, simple lunches (or dinners) and such. The restaurants in town are fantastic and you have a number to choose from. There is also a New World so you don't need to bring anything with you. They did a clever thing by extending the roof so the studio feels very spacious and light. I was a little too tall for the bathroom as the roof is still sloped there. But that is small stuff and only mentioned in case you are over 185cm to watch your head. Would go back in a heartbeat and would recommend to any single or couple looking for a lovely place to stay in charming Devonport. We also went out to Waiheke Island for a day which was super convenient to get to with direct ferry service from Devonport. To top it off the family is lovely and incredibly helpful. Highly, highly recommended.
