Stay in one of my eco friendly cabins.
The micro-cabins are almost 100% off-grid, with a wood burning stove, solar powered lighting, composting toilet, etc.
The leafy outside area has a deck/porch, and a patio area solely for guests use.
A short walk will bring you to the heart of this colourful village, with pubs, good restaurants, Irish music. Kinvara is an ideal base to explore The Burren.
If this cabin is not available for your dates, try Cabin 1.
The space
Cabin 2 has a bedroom, living room/kitchenette, and little shower room/WC. It really is tiny, it measures only 6m x 3m in total. It's very bright, with lots of windows, and a skylight. (The bedroom has blackout blinds) Hot water is instant, the shower is good. It's well insulated all round, which means it keeps the heat in, and also keeps the summer heat out, so it's a nice ambient temperature. The lighting is powered by a solar panel. There are two cabins side by side, if this one (Cabin 2) is not available for your dates, try Off-grid Cabin 1.
COMPOSTING TOILET
The toilet is a composting type, called a Separett Villa. Check it out online! Please note, if you are not comfortable with a composting toilet, this may not be the place for you. I have detailed instructions in the cabin on how to use it for your comfort. If there's anything you're not happy with during your stay, please inform me and and I will probably be able to fix it.
Guest access
Outside the cabin, there is a partially covered deck where you can enjoy a coffee in the morning, or a drink in the evening sun. There is also a patio area where you can use a barbecue (not provided - single use ones are available in the village) for guests' use. The garden is surrounded by hedges, shrubs, flowers and trees, and there is a herb garden to pick from if you are cooking! There are two cabins side by side, so you will possibly have neighbours.
Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE:
1. There is a cigar lighter- type socket in the cabin for charging mobile devices, so best to bring a car charger with you, if you have one. I can possibly help with adaptors if you don't have what you need.
2. There is a service station right next door. Expect occasional traffic noise. They have fresh croissants in the morning, and a hot food counter all day! There is complimentary breakfast cereals, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, washing up liquid, handsoap, toilet paper.
3. In the winter, the wood burning stove is the only heat source, there is no central heating, so you will be lighting fires to stay warm. It will be warm on your arrival, and I will show you how to light the fire if necessary. Everything you need for the stove is provided.
4. In the winter months, places to eat out in the village are limited, specially after dark.
5. The filling station next door has washers and dryers for public use, available 24 hours.
6. The cabins have been included in The Irish Times listing of "50 of the best places to stay, eat and play around Ireland's coastline" in July 2017. See photos.
7. The cabins are in a secluded area at the rear of the garden, and it is largely peaceful and quiet. But, the location is on the outskirts of the village, not in a remote part of the countryside, so there will be the noises of village life from time to time.
8. I'm sorry pets are not allowed.
9. The village currently does not have a taxi service, and calling in taxis from the nearest village/town is really expensive. I’m sorry but my own car insurance doesn’t cover me to carry passengers for reward.
10. The composting toilet may take a little getting used to, but full instructions are included. There is a charge of €25 for extra cleaning of the toilet due to improper use. Do not put water (or other liquids) in the solids container.
10. The cabin is cleaned thoroughly in between stays. However, though it still looks very much like the photos, it is now 10 years old, and at this stage has a lived-in feel. It is not pristine, brand new, 5-star hotel room-like in its appearance. Maintenance/upgrading is ongoing, and I do my best to keep it looking smart. (This year it’s had new kitchen worktop, kitchen doors, sofa cover, etc) Please bear this in mind when reading reviews, and while deciding whether this might be the place for you.
