Contemporary, steel building backs up to high desert, secluded land for hiking. Private entrance to light-filled sculptor's studio turned guesthouse comfortably furnished in Santa Fe/industrial style with outdoor spa. Main room with ping pong, sofa and kitchenette. Luxurious bathroom has jacuzzi and steam shower. Two bedrooms, living room with flat screen upstairs. Minutes from Rail Runner and I-25. Easy 15-minute drive to Santa Fe (restaurants, shops, movies); 25 minutes to Plaza downtown.

The space

Park two cars in the covered carport just steps from your private entrance with keypad entry. (More parking available on the large gravel drive.) Come into the bright living area/game room. Have fun with ping-pong, foosball, board games, children's toys and sound system (with cable for your music via your phone/iPad, etc.). Lounge, nap or sleep on the double bed and sofa. Fix your coffee/tea (coffee, teas and fixings provided) and make simple meals with your coffee maker, electric tea kettle, induction burner, microwave, kitchen sink, large refrigerator and food prep area with basic cookware and utensils. Enjoy your meals and coffee/tea at the kitchen table with stunning views of the open land and Cerrillos hills through
the mostly glass garage door. Open the glass garage door to bring the big New Mexico skies in and to access your private patio with spa, grill, bistro table and chairs. Also on the ground floor, enter your oversized, black slate bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, steam shower and granite sink. Your two bedrooms are upstairs with a queen bed in one bedroom and two Swedish beds in the other (one king and one twin). The bedrooms are off a living room with a 55" flat screen, comfy sectional, small desk nook, cozy reading nook with window, books for kids and adults and more views of the striking high desert and mountains beyond.

Guest access

Guests can walk around to the other side of the house, go through two gates and be on the open high desert (secluded, accessible land). Follow the path and cairns (small rock piles to guide you) around the cactus and juniper to the river, hill with petroglyphs and trails to longer hikes, if you wish.

Guests will also have use of two bikes to ride on our country roads. (Safety vests are on the coat rack by the door for biking or walking.)

Interaction with guests

Robert is a woodworker with a shop in another building on the property and Lisa works part-time at a public school in town. We are always a phone call, text, email or knock on our front door away and are happy to answer any questions and give tips on places to visit, eat, etc.

Other things to note

High desert puts us at about 7,000 ft. No matter how fit you are, some people from lower altitudes can get headaches and feel very tired at this altitude, until their body acclimates. Common advice is to drink plenty of water, get extra rest and wait as long as possible until engaging in demanding physical activities.

High desert also means we have four seasons. There is usually a 30 degree differential between our low and high temperatures in a day. For example, 70 degrees during the day means 40 degrees at night and early morning. Please check predicted temperatures for your stay before packing, so you bring enough layers and warm clothes.

We have two hound dogs who you may see or hear, but who do not have access to any of your spaces, inside or out. Our dogs are friendly, but take their protecting duties seriously, so they may bark on our side of the house, especially when you drive in or if you come in late at night. Not to worry!

Robert and Lisa are the host and their place is exactly what you'd want to book in AirBnB! Friends and I went to Santa Fe to go mountain biking. Their place is perfect for retreat after a long ride - sort of away from the town but very accessible; spacious and super clean; comfy bedsl sunny; and the amenities are top notch! My favorite is the steamer in the shower :) Anyway, I would definitely recommend and I would definitely come back! Thank you Robert and Lisa - we had a wonderful stay!

We can't say enough nice things about Lisa and Robert and their rental. It is a great set up for both couples and families. It was very clean and there were thoughtful touches throughout. Motion activated nightlights ensure that you can see where you're going without waking the whole place up turning the overhead lights on. Helpful notes explain pretty much everything you'd ever have a question about and they are just a quick text away if you have other questions. We chose to sleep in bed on the main level as it was the most comfortable to us (not overly firm). We went upstairs was to watch TV and read books a few times. We used the hot tub twice. It was very clean and the cover was easy to remove. We also took advantage of the steam shower and indoor jetted tub - both were wonderful! The location is great and the view is beautiful. We flew into ABQ and rented a car for the week. It took us 45 minutes to get to the rental from Albuquerque. It's a very easy drive from the rental into Santa Fe and the surrounding areas. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and we were thrilled with the accommodations. I would recommend it to anyone who was considering spending time in the Santa Fe area.

Look no further. If you’re coming to Santa Fe and have your own mode of transportation, this place is the best. Complete with ping pong, so many board games, rasor scooters & foozball— plus an awesome hot tub — Lisa’s house is your dream garage-turned-apartment. My teenage self would’ve killed to have this space growing up to hide from my parents and kick it with my degenerate friends. Complimentary popcorn, steam shower, fresh flowers and homemade cookies really set Lisa apart as an exceptional host. She also provided so much info about nearby hikes, etc. Plus the details in the decor and general layout of the place are quirky and fun, and the garage door that opens and leads to the patio + hot tub provides lots of natural light and fresh air. The rental apartment is attached to the main house and is about a 20-minute drive from downtown Santa Fe (and MeowWolf), but the location is really cool, great for nighttime star gazing and enjoying the quiet environment. This place sleeps a lot of people, but has just one (fabulous) bathroom.

This house was perfect for a weekend getaway to Santa Fe! Just out of the city to enjoy the scenic views of the mountains as well as a convenient 20 minutes away from the Plaza for food, shopping, and nightlife. The hot tub was a wonderful touch after hiking during the day and watching the sunset from the house was a memorable moment. Lisa was available to answer any questions and left a handy notebook full of easy to follow instructions to fully appreciate the space and notes on things to do and hikes to take. We truly enjoyed staying at this house and would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, scenic trip to Santa Fe.

This is a beautiful, extremely family oriented place. They have gone over and above to make this a welcoming, family friendly environment for children of all ages. As for the grown up, it is a relaxing romantic venue as well. We will definitely be visiting here again.

We met through a few of our seven kids that we have between us and that's who we're usually visiting when we stay at airbnbs. Besides seeing our kids, we love meeting new people, eating new foods and learning when we travel.
