The space

Location is Everything!

Perfect for parents & families visiting kids at Cornell and Ithaca College!! Ideal for visiting professors at IC & Cornell.

The apartment is a sun-filled, completely private space with original hardwood floors & woodwork, floor to ceiling windows (many with the old wavy glass) and 10' ceilings in the living space. It is on the *second* floor of our historic home in Downtown Ithaca.

The sun streams into the living room, kitchen and bedroom in this space through the floor to ceiling windows. It has beautiful barn wood walls and exposed brickwork. The galley kitchen has a pressed tin ceiling, and the sink backsplash is made of recycled license plates. The kitchen has plates, bowls and silverware, as well as a refrigerator, microwave and stove, but it is not stocked for cooking. We recycled and upcycled with salvaged materials as much as possible, wherever we could, when we renovated this apartment.

All of our mattresses are brand new, environmentally friendly and incredibly comfortable (see our reviews), as are our sheets, towels, pillows and blankets. Beautiful antique European linens are mixed in throughout the apartment.

Guest access

Our guests come through the red front doors to the building, and upon entering the building, go up the stairs. At the top of the stairs, turn left, and the door to your apartment is right there.

Interaction with guests

We live on site and are available for problems or emergencies, but otherwise you will not see us. You will have complete privacy in your own space.

Other things to note

The pictures and description of this apartment are very accurate (see reviews from guests). If you don't like what you read in the description or see in the pictures, please don't book. If there's something missing from the apartment listing - ex: a coffeemaker - that you must have, please don't book us. Especially don't book us, then complain that there's no coffeemaker. Please. This is a beautiful apartment in a beautiful, historic home, but it's not for everyone.

Please give us 15 minutes notice when you are on your way over to ensure we are here to meet you to give you the keys and show you around. If we don't know when you are coming, we can't guarantee we'll be here to meet you. There are no exceptions to this.

When you check out, please lock the front door to the house and leave the keys in any of the 3 mailboxes by the front door.

All of our mattresses are brand new and incredibly comfortable!

This apartment is on the *second* floor on our house.

There is a small kitchen, but it is not stocked for cooking. It has plates, cups, bowls and silverware.

Please note that our stately Victorian home creaks and groans on occasion when it is very windy.

We have dogs. You will never see or interact with our dogs. There are no dogs or cats in the rooms you will be staying in, but if you (or anyone staying with you) has pet allergies, this probably isn't the right place for you.

This is a pet-friendly building, so a reasonable amount of barking may occur at times. Otherwise, it is a quiet building.

This is an old house, not a new hotel. There will probably be times that you will be able to hear other people walking above you if you are downstairs. There may be times you will be able to hear other people in the building. However, in general this is a very quiet building. If you are looking for a modern place to stay, this is not the right place for you.

The floors in this house creak. It's an old house with original floors. This house in general can be creaky - it's an old house.

During torrential rainstorms (we have only experienced this one time in 12 years), you may be able to hear the plumbing gurgle a little bit if the rainfall is staggering.

Sometimes you may need to jiggle the key to the front door to the building.

So thankful that our first trip to a non-family location with our 6-month-old puppy was at Sarah's! The place is spacious and has a few different little rooms, it is adorable and feels private from the rest of the house. They didn't mind us being in and out all morning and night from walking the dog, hiking, and going out. She was really patient about me making sure the dog's time in the crate was going well too, great communicator. The apartment is close to the commons and great food and its easy to get to hikes and parks too! Totally recommend, we had a wonderdul getaway, thank you!

What surprised and delighted us was how spacious this apartment--it really is that--is. We were two parents and our high school senior checking out Cornell, and it was amazing not to be tripping over each other and having privacy from each other. The house and apartment have charm and interest, from the tall windows with sunlight streaming through wispy, breeze-swept curtains to the quirky decor and high ceilings. I loved it. Sarah and Jeff were really nice, friendly and helpful but not overbearingly so at all. This is probably not a place for someone looking for a generic high-end luxury experience, or looking to cook full meals in the kitchen. You can walk a very very pleasant four or five blocks to bring coffee back to the apartment, and will be glad you took the walk--it's a nice neighborhood. There's a full-size refrigerator for all the leftovers we brought back from great restaurants over our two-night stay, and the hosts left us plenty of bottled water. The decor is cool and unusual, the floorboards to one side of one bed creak a little--these are the types of things you find in a Victorian house that keeps on living and giving. If you are into a funky place with lots of character and really nice hosts, I highly recommend Sarah's and Jeff's place. They were great, we loved Ithaca, and I hope we can return. We would certainly stay there again.

A comfortable and extremely well-located place to stay with good access to downtown Ithaca. Sarah was very helpful, and responsive when our flight was delayed by several hours. I only heard the dogs a few times and it was never a problem.
