Newly-built, exquisitely designed historical courtyard house in a very quiet hutong just 5 minutes walk from the forbidden city. 130 sqm includes living/dining/kitchen/bath upstairs; 2 bedrooms and big living room downstairs. Near Dongsi subway. I have recently returned to the US and so have renewed the listing.

The space

A combination of traditional and modern architecture. The main building is rebuilt in original courtyard style, while the kitchen wing and interior feature modern glass and steel styling.

Guest access

You have access to the entire house and the private courtyard.

A wonderful house in a fantastic location - I cannot recommend Craig's place enough. We stayed for a week with our three year old and seven month old baby - the house was perfect for us. In a traditional hutong and traditional in style from the outside but with a modern twist inside and with up to date amenities to make it really easy and comfortable to stay in. We absolutely loved it and had a blast! Our three year old spent every morning playing in the courtyard - it meant we spent quite a bit of time in the house relaxing and pottering around. Craig was a super host - we had lots of contact before our stay there and he gave us invaluable information about living and surviving in Bejiing eg. Transport, eateries, shopping, sights. He had lived in Bejiing for 10 years and has great local knowledge. Juanita, his neighbour, who manages the property for him, was also amazingly kind and helpful. She helped us get fresh water delivered, order taxis and met us when we arrived to show us how to get to the house. Between them, Craig and Juanita made our stay easy and really fun. Besides the house being spacious and atmospheric, it is right in the best part of Bejiing - really close to the Forbidden City and the fascinating, ancient myriad of hutongs. It was extremely safe and friendly - all the people we met could not have been more welcoming and helpful. One more tip: I highly recommend a bike tour with Bike Bejiing near the house - it was awesome!

Craig's place was perfect for our family. It was very centrally located and we were able to walk or take the subway/bus everywhere. There was a lot of space and it was nice having a full kitchen (although we only used it to wash our fruits). I would definitely recommend it.

This courtyard house is in a great location. It's very close to the Forbidden City, however you will need to walk all the way around to get to the entrance. Listing was extremely accurate, and communication with both host and his neighbour were always timely. Check in went smoothly with no problems. They provided great recommendations and Juanita even assisted us in our shopping. They were both great hosts and overall I would definitely recommend staying.
