My house is tucked in the woods. I'm the last house on my road that is a dead end. With very few neighbors it is a very private location in the heart of the Adirondack mountains. I'm only 20 min from lake placid and Keene and 10 min from whiteface mountain. I'm 10 min lake Everest and and the Ausable. 20 min from mirror lake. Lots of running and hiking trails nearby. My property goes to the Ausable Creek.

This is a large, clean cabin in a great part of the Adirondacks - easy access to fishing rivers, hiking, &etc. for the summer and skiing for the winter. A deer wandered into the back yard mid-day while we were there. Close enough to what you want, but nice and secluded as well.

Loved the house! Really easy to get to, so clean and beautiful, enjoyed the fire pit. We couldn't figure out how to find the trail on the property, but hope to figure it out next time we visit!

You get what you pay for...sometimes less. The price was lower than many other rentals in the area, so my boyfriend and I weren't expecting 5-star accommodations, but we did need reliable Internet because we both had to work during part of our stay. I even made sure to confirm with Matt before our arrival that the wifi worked well. Unfortunately when we arrived, the connection was so poor we couldn't even check email or look up directions. We tried calling the provider, Frontier, but cell service at the house was pretty poor and our calls either failed or dropped. We tried troubleshooting ourselves but nothing worked. Matt was not in the area so he could not help us. While it was obviously not his fault, his response to us was more defensive than apologetic, which was disappointing. After we had left and he went to the house and apparently experienced the issues himself, he apologized and offered us a free night on a future stay. It was a nice gesture but not much consolation given the stress it caused us trying to work around it. Plus, in order to take advantage we'd have to go out of our way to make another trip to that area, which kind of defeats the purpose. (Side note: my boyfriend's parents also live in a rural part of NY that is served by Frontier, and they have issues with their internet frequently, so I'd be surprised if it doesn't continue happening.) But if you don't need Internet service and are looking for a budget accommodation, this place might be fine for you. (I say budget accommodation because there were various other things in need of repair - for instance, kitchen lighting, screen doors, etc. - but nothing that would ruin your experience.)

Response from Matt:
Kitchen light over sink works fine. Are you sure it was plugged in?? Since I got the wifi there that's been the only problem which I had no problem calling and fixing it. The wifi is proabably the best I used up there. I was just pointing out the service is always good and I have had no issues with it,wasn't being defensive. Sorry you had such a horrible stay most people I cater to are climbers, hunters, hikers, outdoors people. If I would of known I would of suggested mirror lake inn or whiteface lodge as a better suit for both of you. Both are wonderful places to stay.

This place is great. It's a very secluded and private house, but easy to get to. It was very clean and well stocked and there was plenty of space . Check in was a breeze. Very nice place to stay.

We absolutely loved staying at Matt's place and in the quiet town of Jay. Matt has done a wonderful job of making the house cozy, clean, and welcoming. Close driving proximity to Lake Placid, multiple breweries(Raquette River Brewing and Big Slide = 2 thumbs way up), the mountain hikes, fishing (great fishing in the nearby Eaton pond) , and restaurants without all the "hustle and bustle" of being right *in* town. I quite enjoyed walking/running around the quiet neighborhood streets while falling in love with the adorable chalet homes that remind me of being in the Alps. We will definitely be back to this part of The Adirondacks again and Matt's place will be our #1 pick!

Matt's place is private and peaceful. It is an easy drive to Wilmington, Jay, Upper Jay and Lake Placid. We particularly enjoyed visiting the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge nearby while our son spent the week as a volunteer. The house is a welcoming place to stay and offers all of the conveniences we needed. The kitchen and pantry spaces were very helpful for our family due to our dietary needs. Also, having wi-fi available was great. We will look forward to returning.
