We went to Arims hotel (it is indeed a hotel) called "The cave" for our 2-night stay in the NE. The directions are a little hard to follow, so search for the Cave, which is easier to find, especially when you come from the north. The check-in was easy and the hotel room is very standard, besides the view. It is an amazing view of mt. batur and augung as well as the lake. The best part is the breakfast, which is brought to your room and you can eat on the patio. The breakfast is ok, but the view during it, makes it worthwhile and the people at the hotel are very accommodating on when you want the breakfast (we left at 4am in the morning). In general the food wasn't too good in the village. It seems more a day-tourist town. However we found Rumah Makan Sari Dharma Food and Drink, next to the organic restaurant which was closed everytime we came. We got the Plecing Kangkung along with the Fried Chicken with Balinese Sauce and it was wonderful, and had the same views as any of the other expensive buffet places with mediocre food. In the night you can also see the stars when the fog clears. We had originally thought to trek mt. Augung (for that you might want to stay closer to it) but due to the volcanic activities we opted for mt. Batur (2h) morning hike, which was sold by the hotel for $30 per person, with pick up and light breakfast (take the breakfast afterwards at the hotel,.. the light is very literal). The hike is easy with views of the stars and has so many tourists that if you look at 4am out from the patio you see the tourists as a star lights going up the mountains. It was stunning to see the sunrise from mt. Batur. In total very beautiful view, and well worth it for a a night under the stars.

The place was alright. Just too expensive for what was offered. But great if you want to climb the volcano. They will even help you booking a tour. The included breakfast was unfortunately really disappointing and by far the worst one we had in Bali. The room is ok. Not super clean but absolutely acceptable. What annoyed us was that you will hear everybody and everything... so sleeping is not made easy. Once someone walks by the door, it will feel like someone is walking right inside the room, noise wise. Also it was super windy that Night we slept there... and as the balcony doors won't close properly you will always feel and hear the wind inside the room... However the view is astonishing and absolutely amazing. Also the staff is really friendly and helpful. I recommend the place if it is just for one night, following the purpose to climb up the volcano batur.
Most comfortable bed/mattress that I have slept in while in Bali, it was an actual mattress and you woke up to the sunrise over the mountains. The view was simply fantastic. Good food options are limited in the area, but the dinner and breakfast at the Cave hotel are actually pretty good.
