Description

The space

La Calzada is a traditional Asturian villa recently restored to make a comfortable holiday retreat. It sits at the high end of La Borbolla - a typically Asturian village set in a picturesque valley only 7 km from the coast and the beautiful beach at Buelna. The house is south-facing and boasts uninterrupted views of the Sierra del Cuera.

La Calzada has an open-plan area downstairs with a new, fully-equipped kitchen and wood-burning stove. On the first floor there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, with doors to the large balcony at the front of the house. There's also a large double bedroom in the loft with views of the valley to the east.

To the front of the house there is a good-sized garden with table and chairs to enjoy the views at the foot of the mountains. There's a private drive between the house and the garden, both for the use of this house and the one next door, although the owners of the house next door rarely use it. There's also a separate parking area to the side of the house.

La Borbolla is a lovely little village with a small rural primary school and a traditional bar-restaurant which serves simple meals. There are also plenty of good restaurants to choose from in the area. A baker visits the village every day and there are several other vendors visiting on a regular basis. It's a short drive away from the historic market town of Colombres, famous for the grand colonial houses built by the rich emigrants returning from Latin America. There's an open-air swimming pool in Colombres which is open from mid-June to mid-September. The pretty harbour town of Llanes with its medieval centre, outdoor cafes and restaurants and busy weekly market is 17 km away.

Guest access

This is the house we use for our own holiday with three young children, so we make sure we have all the equipment to make this a home from home for the whole family.

This is all the equipment you will find at the house: Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet covers, bath towels, beach towels, log burner, TV with HDMI connector (for laptops or iPads), DVD player and some films in English and Spanish, 4-ring ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, coffee maker (percolator), toaster, kettle, hand blender, electric juicer, hair dryer, iron, ironing board and first aid box. A cot (and bedding: bottom and top sheets and blanket) and a high chair are available on request. Outside there is a garden table, chairs, parasol and barbecue. There are also additional chairs and a parasol to take to the beach, as well as some buckets and spades. We also have some toys and books.

Interaction with guests

We don't live in the village, but our lovely friend Mati is nearby and available for anything you may need. She and her husband are also very knowledgeable about the area, including mountain routes from the house itself.

We had a great time in La Borbolla. Belen's house is beautiful, very nice decorated and well equipped. Perfect for a family with kids. The region is astonishing beautiful, green and very rural. Great beaches, lovely food. We would repeat our holidays there for sure

A wonderful place that will give you the experience of authentic Spain. Location is in a small village and the neighbors are all very helpful. You are in driving distance to all area attractions like beaches and the Picos. The rental has all that you will need for an extended stay from washing machine to beach toys. Recommended.

Travelling as a family of 4 adults and 2 kids, this was a pleasant home with all the comforts of home. Perfect base from all the sights of Asturias with friendly neighbours and people wanting to assist even with the language barrier. We loved waking to the sounds of the cowbells ringing, walking everyday of our stay around La Borbolla.

We had a wonderful week staying in La Calzada which was perfect for our needs (family with kids aged 10, 8 & 4) in every respect. The information provided by Belen was more helpful than I could have imagined - and we ended up doing many of the things that were suggested. Tips on beaches, restaurants, day-trips, walks, markets were spot on..and clearly honed from their own experience of enjoying the area. The village is very rural, but not dead, so don't expect silence. The sounds of cockerals, cow- bells and children playing in the square all add to the atmosphere. The house was spotless, arrival easy -with the housekeeper living a few doors away- and the bedding noticibly comfortable and of a very high quality. We particulary liked the way that although the house was uncluttered, there was a toy cupboard with puzzles/lego/train trek which could be used. An outbuilding with BBQ, beach parasol, body board, buckets & spades etc., was really helpful as we would have stuggled to bring these things on a plane, yet they added to the fun of our beach visits. We had a lovely time and would love to visit again one day. Thank you Belen.

There was so much information provided by the host about the area in a visitors book that was provided and leaflets and maps of the area. The village of la Borbolla was lovely peaceful and very beautiful. The local bar was very accessable. The description was spot on

I live in England, but I'm from Asturias, Northern Spain. We own a beautiful house there that we use for our own holidays and would love to share it with other people so they too can experience this beautiful part of the world.
