This bright and comfortable eighteenth century cottage - pink on the outside and green on the inside - is a quiet haven within walking distance of the city's best shops and restaurants. The Bo Kaap neighbourhood is a destination in itself; its wonderful diversity of Georgian architecture, Cape Malay and Muslim culture and artistic interest is unique in South Africa.

The space

The front door and its sturdy gate open straight off the cobbled street so at night it's only a few steps into your Uber and you may come and go as you please.

Guest access

The courtyard behind the cottage is shared with your host and neighbour and is a wonderful place to have tea in the afternoon and to check out whether or not there's a cloud on Table Mountain.

Interaction with guests

Your host will be on hand to greet you and lives next door in case you need help with anything.

Other things to note

**Our low season rate is R750 a night and our high season rate is R1250 a night***
The Masjid Boorhaanol Islam next door to the cottage is a working mosque and centre for the local community. It has never had an automated or loudspeaker Muezzin's Call to Prayer but if you are lucky then occasionally you'll witness a local Muezzin climb out onto the Minaret's balcony and call the faithful to prayer in the inimitable and musical way that many people have only heard in the Bo Kaap.

I'm in architect living in the Bo Kaap and very happy to point you in the direction of all Cape Town's best beaches, walks, restaurants and Days Out.

Things I can't live without: A book, a kikoyi, occasional dogs, a daily walk and candlelight.

Top Tips for the Cape Summer: Head to the Atlantic Seaboard beaches for sunset; take a hat and Factor 50 sunblock absolutely everywhere; flip flops are essential; loose white clothing will see you through the February heat; make dinner reservations in advance!

Top Tips for the Cape Winter: Picnic on the beach - it's deserted and beautiful on a cold sunny day; this is the best time of the year to climb Table Mountain and Lion's Head - do so on a weekday to avoid the crowds; have a look at my Neighbourhood Section for cosy restaurants; always take a water-and-wind-proof coat or jacket with you.
