The space

Our one bedroom Artist's Loft is not just another place to sleep and work, it is a creative immersive art experience. We invite a responsible person, or a couple, to visit our beautiful, recently renovated, private apartment, nestled above our Art Studio. By staying with us in our Hosted Rental, you are invited as an artist and/or art patron-in-residence because by residing in our apartment you directly support art-in-the-making and have the chance to add to the creative flow and output. Feel free to play the piano in our studio if you wish, write a poem or paint or sculpt if you feel inspired. You may observe art projects in progress from unique windows that look into the art studio or you may also draw the blinds for privacy. Guests may have tea with the artists, discuss art and get advice on local art happenings and installations in the area. Brian is available to give tours of his local art installations.
The location is excellent, in the center of the arts & design quarter of the Mission, safe, with lots of character, surrounded by trees and some of the best restaurants, theaters, art galleries, cafes and shopping in San Francisco. It is just a few blocks from the historic Rainbow Grocery Cooperative. The Mission is an international favorite neighborhood to explore local Murals. Our Loft is five blocks to bustling foodie friendly Valencia Street and the BART (the local subway) station. The neighborhood is a pleasant area to walk, bike and just 10min to downtown SF by BART. Our comfortable and unique apartment has been carefully furnished and decorated with contemporary art, artifacts and up-cycled materials such as salvaged bowling ally floors, reclaimed wood and fixtures, ancient Indian and Afghan doors. Staying here offers moments of being outside of the normal bounds of time, a mythical space where one may dive deep into a creative life in the arts.

For anyone looking to stay in this artist residency, I HIGHLY highly recommend it! Brian is an excellent host, his check in was thorough and he wants to get to know his AirBnb guests and tries to foster a relationship to the comfort level of the guest. He was also available via text message/phonecall for anything his guests needed. The space was tremendous, unique and made for a refreshing stay for us. Our last day (check out day) our flight was late at night and Brian was aware of this so he let us hang out in the apartment and secured our luggage until it was time for us to leave for the airport which wasn't until the evening- his kindness will never be forgotten. This was my first AirBnB stay and I have to say Brian and Florencia have set the bar high!

My husband, a sculptor himself and I stayed 3 nights in the Artist in residence loft. The location was superb with ample street parking so you can walk or Uber wherever you want. The loft apt is perfect for a couple and decorated with an appealing artistic flair seen throughout the place. The bed was super comfy with soft linens. We used Brian's wifi without issue as the TV was not hooked up to cable or dish but not needed after a long day sightseeing. Brian met us and helped with our luggage and after a quick run through gave us complete privacy. He even had fans running to help circulate the unseasonably warm temps. I would definitely recommend a stay in this artist residency if you plan to visit San Francisco.

I loved staying in Brian's place. It is hard to convey how gorgeous it is -- Brian is an artist and every detail of the place reflects his artistic sensitivity. Everything about the place exceeded expectation. Communication with Brian and with his partner Florencia was seamless and efficient. The loft is basically right above Brian's work studio, which is in and of itself a place of endless wonder and creativity. Brian's work adorns several parts of the city, and it was fascinating for me, as someone who studies urban issues, to see how a creative artist conceives of his role in a city like San Francisco. We had really interesting chats, and I wish we could have had more (though I am hoping to return to continue our conversations). This is a great airbnb rental: not only is the place itself great, but it could not be better located. You are a block from Tartine's, one of the best bakeries in the country, and a block in another direction from a great market, Gus's, which will have everything you need if you decide to eat in. (And the kitchen is perfectly equipped for that as well!). And within blocks in any directions lie the countless riches of the Mission -- interesting shops, myriad cafés, music venues, bars, etc. etc. But the special thing about Brian's place, one that really distinguishes it from other rentals, is the sense that you are being invited to take part either as an artist or a scholar in the creative enterprise. Brian and Florencia are perfectly discreet, and you will have complete privacy if that is what you wish -- but you will also be able to take part through discussion or through hands on participation in the creative process and energy that is palpable in every square inch of the place. Highly recommended for those who are looking for a little bit more from their airbnb rental.

Dear Daniel, Thank you very much for your lovely, informative and helpful Airbnb review. This was probably the best review we have received to date and we are hoping it will help us find more people like you to come and stay with us as artists are scholars in residence. Please do let us know if you are ever coming back to San Francisco whether or not you stay with us we would enjoy the chance to spend some more time together. Kindly, Brian and Florencia

The apartment exceeds the great photos and description of it: it is a glorious, comfortable and carefully crafted vantage point for feeling like you are living in San Francisco (in such a vibrant district with a wonderful grocery store just down the street and so many great restaurants nearby, as well as good BART and MUNI connections). It's also a rare chance to see art in the making. Brian and Florencia were excellent, informative and unobtrusively considerate hosts, and their recommendations were marvellous.

Wow! What an amazing apartment inside a working artist's studio - it was incredible & so unique especially as my husband & I love art. Brian & Flor couldn't have been more helpful or friendly & invited us to join them at the Piano in the Park outdoor exhib in the Botanical Gardens which was great fun. We also loved the location of the apartment in the Mission District. It's really close to great restaurants, coffee & the buzzing Valencia Street & Dolores Park. We couldn't recommend it more highly & would love to go back again!
