About this listing

Welcome to our bright and cozy guest cottage. You will find garden sitting areas right outside your front door. Birds are chirping and woodland trails open right down the street.
We are a short walk through Crippen Park or via the main road, to both the beach or our quaint Bowen Island cove with coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery. The cottage is rustic and off the grid. It's a bit chilly in the morning, but is full of charm and character. CHECK IN TIME is 3pm until mid September

The space

The space is rustic and simple, but clean and cosy. The private entrance opens onto the garden, where you will find a small garden sitting area. The space features a gramophone that will play music via your cell phone ( fits a small i phone), and wash stand for your morning and evening use, complete with towels and hot water brought to your door.

Please note, you will need to walk through the garden to the main house for the toilet, and shower. The main washroom will be made available in the morning and evening to fit your schedule . Coffee and tea are available in the main house in the morning. The space is quiet and private but we are just next door if you need anything.

Other things to note

About our Gramophone and how it works

When industrial designer Matt Richmond stumbled upon a 1920’s Victrola horn in an antique store near San Francisco he was immediately intrigued. He held his phone up to the opening and began to dream. He created a hardwood base and carved a slot for his phone. A tunnel between the slot and a hole for the horn transmitted the sound and amplified it three to four times. The base sits on four spikes to eliminate vibration.

No volume control. No battery. No plug. Just physics.

“It’s not overpowering, so it’s great in the background,” Matt says. “And it’s directional – you can point the horn where you want the sound. If you put it in a corner it’ll really fill a room.”

You aren’t going to get a high-fidelity sound from this dock, but rather an acoustic one that harkens back to the sound of gramophones that would make Thomas Edison proud. A blend of vintage and digital technology, it is as beautiful as it is functional. **************************************************************************************************************************************************************

About our washstand and how it works: We love the idea of quaint and rustic form and function, and thought it would be fun to include a washstand in the cottage. Let me know what time you rise, and if you would like hot water in the morning, and we will leave hot water at your door step. You are very welcome to use the main bathroom in addition. The inside shower and main bathroom will be open to fit your schedule.

We loved our time here! My girlfriend and I had never stayed in an Airbnb before and Catherine (and family) made our first experience wonderful. She had everything ready as soon as we arrived (and we had arrived just after check-in time), and was well prepared with a laundry list of things for us (wifi access, how to get coffee in the morning, washroom access, even how to get a pitcher of hot water for cleaning in our room should we want it). She had a great dinner recommendation (Tuscany). We both felt comfortable going in and out when we needed to for access to anything that wasn't in our cottage. We'd definitely recommend Catherine for an easy, quiet stay on Bowen Island!

Catherine is a lovely host and the cabin is a cozy, rustic retreat. Walking distance to the ferry, near beaches and wonderful walking trails it's a simple, quiet hide out near all the best places!

We enjoyed a comfortable room in a very walk-able part of Bowen for a few days. Catherine and her family are very pleasant people to share a bathroom with. They made it clear that we were welcome. Having Catherine serve coffee to me in the garden in the morning felt like a wonderful treat. They also have lovely cats. Not having WiFi access for a few days was an excellent change of pace, in fact it made our brief getaway from Vancouver that much more effective.

Loved our stay and will treasure our memories! Catherine and her family are very kind, patient, and caring. Both myself and my little enjoyed their hospitality and kindness, while also having our privacy totally respected. Catherine always had a smile for us and a cup of coffee for me!
