This famous large old flat have high ceilings, a strong and nice river view, and lots of space. It belongs to the couple of artists Sofia d'Aguiar and Tomás Colaço. They are part of a big family of artists: Painters, Writers, Sculptors, Actors, Musicians and more. The area is the best to be: SANTOS. Images are from some interior design magazines:"The World of Interiors" (June 2011 - cover); CABANA (2016); AD, Attitude, Urbana and a few others. Maybe the place looks better on real.

The space

The structure is the original, the walls have frescoes painting form 1850 The comfort is done by all this charm and particularity of several generations of famous portuguese artists (Colaço) living here more then other things. That's the reason there is only one (big) bathroom at this vast area. Nothing is obvious. Not by the book. The area is great. The spot is unique. The river view is a (very) nice presence at the place. Furniture is a (nice) mix of seiscentos, setecentos and oitocentos centuries objects.

Guest access

Santos should be the most interesting spot at the old Lisbon. Walking distance to everywhere in town. You can take the river walk or chose the old city web. You also have all transports here and also taxi or uber is a good solution in Lisbon.

Interaction with guests

We will give you some private tips to be (really) in (our) Lisboa if you like. Secret spots, private homes, palaces, convents, museums, art galleries, nature and parks, best beaches, some sports.. depending on what you are interested in.

Other things to note

This spot is part of the portuguese "bonnes adresses" to be in Lisboa. It's a rare example of old interiors of the city (Lisbon is now getting destroyed by hotel holders and private new owners that prefere to "modernize" their interiors. The flat is at the second floor of the building served by large stairs (no elevator) Locals are (still) here so you can understand how is to live in this great city.

Tomas's and Sofia's place on the Rue des Esperanza or english - the street of hope, was absolutely 5 stars all around. It is such a spacious, authentic, luxurious, romantic and colorful home, on a great location, close to the center and water and young, artistic life, amazing food as well, that it was really hard to say goodbye to the incredible hosts and their magical home. I can only hope that I will soon return and stay with them once more. If you are an adventurous spirit, creative collective, a couple in love or anyone really - please do not hesitate, choose this place for an true experience of Lisboa and make everyone jealous.

Tomas is the nicest host you can get, he helped us all the way. We were warmly welcomed. The place is a museum, truly one of a kind, elegant beautiful antiques all the way. Bright apartment and nice breeze, its a memorable experience to stay in a place like this for us. Close to puppet museum. We only stayed 2 nights with a full day in a wedding so we didn't have time to explore around much. Thank you so much Tomas!

visual artist. I work with painting / sculpture / photo / video but also installation and mainly with atmospheric backgrounds that I buit on "real space" and sometimes transfer to museological space erasing traces of this displacement. Then I do stories, real and fictionated ones that I use as my work but also as part of my life. I try to be based in Lisbon but I also live in Tangier and Rio de Janeiro (less now then before...)
