The treehouse is the only option for the real adventure traveller looking for a romantic get away in the Belizean Jungle. It is one of seven licensed accommodation units at our remotely located lodge: Martz farm Treehouses and cabanas ltd nestled in to the foothills of the Maya Mountains in the far west of Belize

The space

This treehouse is uniquely placed over a waterfall and provides a great family or honeymoon getaway! There is no electricity, but it is a perfect romantic night in the jungle with candle light! The treehouse comfortably sleeps 4 people in two beds. Prices are based on double occupancy and each additional adult pays USD15 per night. The treehouse is part of our lodge. Please also look for our website: Martz Farm Belize for additional info on meals, tours and shuttles

Guest access

Guests have access to all services provided at the lodge (meals, tour desk, Wifi, laundry). The lodge is located 8.5 miles from the closest town: Benque Viejo del Carmen. Public transport is not available on this road. You can book shuttle services at the lodge. Taxis will come up our road, but prices vary widely, since there are no fixed rates here. This listing is not suitable for infants or small children, but you can check out our family units with porch, which we specifically designed for families with children.

Interaction with guests

It is our pleasure to be your hosts. Our vibrant family of 5 and our extended family are always around to answer your questions and to arrange your day trips.

Other things to note

Because of its location above the waterfall, there is no plumbing for the treehouse. Bathrooms and showers are about 20 paces from the house and there is no electricity in the treehouse. Other accommodations, also available at the lodge, have electricity and bathrooms ensuite. If you are renting a vehicle please make sure it is a 4x4, and make sure you have driving directions in hand. The last 8 miles are not paved and can take up to 45 minutes. I highly recommend you try to get here before it gets dark (i.e. not after 6pm) because it is tricky to get your bearings in the dark. We do, however, accept late check ins as well. If you are catching bus and taxi, please beware that there are no fixed rates and drivers can be a bit reluctant to come to our remote location, especially at night. If you are flying in during the course of the afternoon to Belize city, I recommend you get the shuttle to pick you up, but this is optional. If you are a confident driver you will be ok navigating our unpaved road.

Thank you for a wonderful and unique experience. We loved staying in the treehouse with our own private plunge pool. Miriam's food was delicious, Joe taking us horse riding and caving was incredible as was the pontoon boat trip with Laz and Milly. We will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family!

What an amazing place to spend our honeymoon! We couldn't have chose a better place. Looking back now, it probably was one of the highlights of our trip! The boat ride, the horse back riding and of course - the poetry. Thank you so much for letting us stay Miriam.

We stayed at the treehouse for a week over New Year 2014/2015 and had an incredible time. It is impossible to put the tranquil atmosphere into words but imagine the perfect jungle hideaway, hand-built by the hosts with traditional materials, combined with the hospitality and invaluable local knowledge of the hosts. When we didn't lounge in the hammocks listening to the waterfall or watching howler monkeys from our bed we went on daytrips, all of which were stunning. Horsetracking through the dense jungle and cave-exploring with Joe and his gentle, happy horses and the river-tour with his brother Laz who taught us to climb up waterfalls were equally exhilarating and soul soothing experiences. We were also lucky to visit the nearby Xunantunich when it was almost deserted, taking in the magical atmosphere of this Mayan sites. The wildlife all around us, the home-cooked food and enjoyable company of the Martinez family made this an unforgettable stay. Thank you!

Staying here was the highlight of my trip. What makes it so, is the people. They make this an experience not just an accommodation option. If you want a random tree house there are lots of other listings. Miriam, Joe and their family are welcoming and laid back, like everyone else has mentioned they really do treat you like extended family. If you want to retreat from everything the treehouse allows that, if you want to mingle there is always someone in the kitchen or playing on the lawn. Joe offers tours and trips that he personally takes you on, a perfect tour guide with an obvious deep affection for his land, culture, history and life in the Jungle. We went on the half day horse back ride and the views where like a 3D sensory scroll through Photobucket or Pinterest. Epic. I was a new rider and Joe gave me a quick intro and understated subtle support the whole way through the ride and a general confident feel that made me feel like a pro! The horses are very well behaved and so much fun! The tree-house feels like it's secluded but only about 40m from their kitchen and showers/toilets. They have filtered tap water available which was a luxury, we didn't take supplies and instead took advantage of the cooking that Miriam offers. There where virtually no bugs or mosquito which was surprising. We saw howler monkeys in the trees just meters away, numerous butterflies and humming birds. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. They have a very peaceful & fun home/jungle/life and its amazing that they can share it with people on Airbnb.

We stayed in the treehouse as part of our trip to Belize for our anniversary. It was incredible falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the waterfall and the jungle each day. We decided on the half day horseback guided tour and half day pontoon boat tour. Both exceeded our expectations. Louis was so knowledgeable in the plants and animals, and was easily able to point animals out to us that we didn't see at first - howler monkeys, crocodile, green iguana, and numerous birds. The stay here was well worth it, and something we look forward to doing again someday with our children this time.

This place is truly magical. I don't know if you will find an experience like this anywhere in the world (they've set the bar pretty high). There is really something for everyone, so families of all sizes should feel welcome. One nice thing about their location is there are not as many bugs as you'd expect. Regardless, we did where deet (jungle juice brand) most of the time. I left with no bites. I got water up my nose and in my mouth and left with no typhoid (even without my shots). Enjoy it. Be prepared but don't be scared of this amazing and well maintained place. I definitely over packed and will minimize a a little next time. I traveled with my 10 year old daughter for the first time out of North America and I am so glad we chose this as a destination. She experienced the jungle and some of the good and even tricky things that go with it. At first she was hot, uncomfortable, and then all of a sudden, out of nowhere. completely fine and carefree. As the weekend unfolded I was my child become more curious and less frightened by the jungle and her smile must have grown three inches in size. Not only was the jungle an experience I am so glad she had, but this was the perfect place to do it. Miriam, her husband Joe, and their children treated us like we were a part of the family. We wanted for nothing the entire time. We stayed in the treehouse and the nights were cool while we were there. It was extremely comfortable considering we were in the middle of the Belizean jungle, and that goes to say something about their family and how much pride they take in their business. We did the pontoon excursion with Luis, and it was an amazing adventure for my daughter, myself, and our friend that came along. It started with what I would consider an intermediate hike. My daughter, who was not used to the heat and humidity, struggled at this point in the day. But after seeing wildlife, eating fresh fruit, and checking out the amazing views, her childlike worries and complaints drifted away. We had a great time seeing the waterfalls, swinging from a rope swing, and spending the day on the river and seeing all local jungle had to offer. After a long day we were extremely hungry. We sat down to an amazing and well rounded meal, made completely fresh by Miriam. From the breads and tortillas, to the juices and and main course, everything was truly delicious and 100% homemade. It was wonderful and just what you need after a long day hiking and swimming. I slept like a baby next to the waterfall in the treehouse. It gets cool at night, but it's the perfect temperature and sleeping with the covers and your clothes is more than enough. The treehouse stays dark so you can sleep in...

This treehouse is absolutely amazing! It is situated on a private family farm, and Miriam and Joe are the perfect hosts. I highly recommend the all day horseback ride. Not only do you get to ride through the jungle, but Joe really knows his stuff and also takes you through a local cave. The Cave is massive and has a lot of history.
