The Signal Box is a perfect base to relax, unwind and explore The Lakes & the Eden Valley.
The building was once used to control the crossing and operate the points at Cliburn Station, on the Eden Valley Railway. It now offers unique, luxury, self-catering accommodation in a previously working and recently renovated railway Signal Box. It offers a lounge, modern kitchen, bathroom, bedroom with ensuite, private parking for 2 cars, spacious garden and access to a private 14 acre wood.

The space

Nestling at the bottom of Whinfell Forest, the Signal Box was once used to control the crossing and operate the points at Cliburn Station, on the Eden Valley Railway. It now offers unique, luxury, self-catering accommodation in a previously working and recently renovated railway Signal Box with private garden, access to a private 14 acre wood and parking for two vehicles.
Ideally suited for two people, the signal box can accommodate four people, using a sofa bed in the lounge. It offers a first floor lounge (with views of the Eden Valley to three sides), a modern dining/kitchen, a double bedroom and ensuite bathroom. Under floor heating and hot water are provided by an environmentally friendly geothermal ground source heat pump.
Please note that unfortunately, due to its historic nature and design with stairs, this property does not have wheelchair access but is suitable for some guests with restricted mobility.
Lounge
32” TV with freesat, DVD player, iPod docking station with radio, two leather sofas (one of which is a sofa bed) and cosy wood burning stove.
Dining/Kitchen
Dishwasher, electric cooker, ceramic hob, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, dining table and chairs.
Bedroom
Double bed, wardrobe, set of drawers, bedside tables, dressing table, hairdryer and DAB clock radio.
Bathroom
Walk in shower, sink, WC, mirror and shaver socket.
Garden
Private gravelled and grassed areas with parking for two vehicles, garden furniture and barbeque.

Unfortunately we are now home from our stay at the Signal Box! What a beautiful place, cannot fault it. It was alot more spacious than we expected. The location is perfect, far enough out the way for it to be so quiet and peaceful yet not too far away to get out and do things. Gavin and wendy were brilliant hosts and were very helpful from the second we booked, until we checked out. Will definitely recommend to our friends and anyone else thinking about booking, you will not regret it. Thanks a lot Gavin and Wendy.

My 6-year-old Son and I recently spent 3 nights at the Signal Box at Cliburn. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had made the right choice for our mini-break. The Signal box has been lovingly converted into a unique and cosy retreat nestled in a beautiful and peaceful location in the Eden Valley. The signal box is spotlessly clean, spacious and is fully equipped with all the utensils and appliances you may need, it also boasts a wonderfully comfortable bed from which my son needed to be prised every morning. The under floor heating kept everything cosy and our only regret is in not having a night cool enough to try out the wood burning stove in the lounge. The signal box is in the perfect location from which to explore the Lake District, North Pennines and Eden valley and during our stay, we managed to explore High Cup, rode the Ullswater Steamers, visited Aira falls and even bagged our first three Wainwrights! Gavin and Wendy were away during the time of our stay, but Gavin made sure we had all the information we needed for our arrival and replied promptly to any questions we posed and made us feel welcome from the start. Our stay at the Signal box proved a memorable end to the summer holidays and we hope to be back for a longer stay next year. Look no further if you are looking for the perfect place to stay in this beautiful part of England.
