If you stay here, you will effectively be staying in a treehouse. Lying in bed as the rain pours down outside on the wood is without hyperbole a magical experience. Bananaquits and other birds flock to the fruit trays outside. My shower was located in an alcove on the open-air deck, but it still had a curtain and hot water. If you visit Marino Ballena National Park for whale watching, you can also use your ticket to enter a beach that is part of the park located within a five-minute walk of El Toboso. Although the cook was sick in the morning, Mike arranged for food to be brought to the kitchen early so I could eat breakfast before I checked out. The ample food offered included whole grain toast with jam, several types of fruit, chorreadas and eggs. The staff helped me set up an unforgettable trip to Corcovado National Park. Rather than walk all the way to Uvita, eat at the nearby Restaurante Kem-Vari on the Pan-American highway, within a 15-minute walk. Minor negatives: Wi-fi is spotty and the building may lose power during storms.

Katja and his new bed and breakfast were fantastic. He is recently doing construction on the place and I plan on being a future guest to see the finished work. He was a great help with our car and accommodating more people to stay at the last minute. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the price was great and the staff was so sweet. We really liked this little pizza place that was right next door and the beach was a five minute walk. We even had a great time on the whale watching trip that the host, Katja set up for us.

El Toboso is a Hostel all made of wood in a jungle like garden with no windows so you might feel like staying in a tree house. We had a private bath"room" where we could watch the nature around while showering. Unfortunately there is only cold water, which is no problem when it's hot outside, but one day we had a lot of rain so a hot shower would have been nice though. The shared kitchen is at an other house only 5 meters away and is just amazing !! Very spacious, very clean, very well equipped and also with a huge table and a hammock ! We also got breakfast, made from a local woman called Cecilia and it was so delicious ! It was typical Costa Rican food but not that rice and beans and eggs breakfast. One day we had hash browns made of platanos with guacamole, salsa and fried egg and the other day we had Tamale (a typical Christmas dish ). Both days it came with coffee and fresh fruits. Honestly the best breakfast we had so far in Costa Rica. Maik and Katja and their son Paul are very friendly and helpful. Maik organised a whale watching tour for us, which was fun. We recommend el Toboso to everyone who wants to have a quiet place close to the beach and surrounded by nature. Since it's far away from the bus stop, the ATM and the big (therefore cheaper) supermarket and its a Hostel with no hot water we found it a little too expensive.
