The space
We’re very excited to have opened availability to book Edme for 2026

This is a rare opportunity to stay for a night or two on Edme and we delight in being to offer her to you!

Edme is a wooden traditional engineless Thames Sailing Barge. Built in 1898, she has been extensively rebuild and lovingly cared for by her past and present owners: she is in excellent condition.

She frequently races locally but in between times she berths at St Osyth Boatyard alongside the quay: access is easy across the gang plank

Edme is uniquely available for short lets during the summer for family groups of up to 10. Either groups or single occupancy is fine.

Price quoted is for 1 person/night with additional people at £30/night

Edme is open planned down below decks with galley, table and cosy snug area with settees and comfy chair

There are 3 main open cabins for sleeping: The captains quarters at the back which sleeps 2 in side bunks; a slight challenge to get into but extremely cosy and very comfortable.!

In the focsle, up the front end is a small double and 3 single berths with a ladder and hatch to on deck
Back aft and near the steps is a large almost kingsize bunk with a smaller double berth opposite

There are 3 settees which can be slept on and 2 spare mattresses for the floor

Galley:
There is a large 6 ring gas cooker with double oven and the galley is fully equipped to cater for 16. A large work surface for food preparation and sink, draining area and corner work surface near the cooker. Edme only has cold water available through a quaint foot pump; hot water is from kettles on the hob

The large table is centre piece in the main saloon, seating 16 on benches and folding church pews with a 3 seater settee nearby.
Up forward under the fore hatch is the snug with 3 large settees and a cosy chair.

Edme is Strictly No Smoking onboard and no naked flames

Watch out for the keelson down below and the main and fore horse on deck (large pieces of wood that go from one side of the barge to the other..these are essential when we sail!) No tripping over!

The heads ( bathroom in nautical terms) is small and very basic with a sea toilet and bowl with hand pump for cold water washing.
The yard toilets and a shower are available on the site.
Edme is a seriously fun glamping experience!!

Guest access
Please bring bedding, pillows and towels.

The whole barge is for you to enjoy; please observe the tradional rig but leave the ropes and rigging alone as we sail regularly and need it all left in working order. No climbing the rigging!

The main deck is a great place for cuppa or awesome for a glass of wine to watch the sunsetting down the creek!

Other things to note
We expect our guests to fully respect Edme and care for her as your own.
She is a very basic but traditional barge truly authentic and very comfortable.
