Great location
95% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
St Abbs is in a really good situation, easy walking distance from railway station and bus stop. It's just around the corner from the renowned Birnam Arts Centre and Beatrix Potter exhibition and garden. There's a good choice of nice eating places close by.
I live in the house also, though sometimes I am away. Guests are free to access the living room where there is a log fire- there's a piano and guitars which are there to be played! There is parking in the driveway or on the street.

The space
There are 3 steps to the front door, and the bedroom is upstairs. This accommodation is best suited to 2 people or a single guest, however can accommodate a baby in same room if this is required. A cot is available. The bedroom is next to the shared bathroom. There are books, a selection of maps, tea and coffee making facilities, etc, in the bedroom. If guests want to make a light meal or packed lunch the kitchen is available on request. There's seating in the garden and guests are welcome to sit out and enjoy a cup of tea or glass of wine there. It's a peaceful area and quiet at night.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to make themselves comfortable in my home, to enjoy the garden area, and to use the washing machine on request.

Other things to note
There is a TV and selection of dvds in lounge downstairs.
Theres a wee wooden 'bothy'
(house) in the garden...if extra space is required then this can be made available.
I have a lodger in a separate self contained part of the house. She is on hand also if guests have any queries.

Location

Birnam, Scotland, United Kingdom

Birnam is a lovely village and Dunkeld is just a short walk away. There are lots of fantastic walks and cycle runs from the house. You don't even need to get into the car. There's a network of footpaths. The Hermitage is nearby, and many other tourist attractions, including Dunkeld Cathedral, Birnam Arts Centre, Beatrix Potter garden and exhibition, Taybank Hotel. The Aran bakery of Great British Bake Off fame is a delicious side track. There's a good deli and plenty of eating places. The beautiful River Tay is minutes from the house and the footpath from there will take you by the Birnam Oak along to the impressive Telford's bridge and across it to Dunkeld.
Birnam is a great base to explore further afield. It's on the main rail and bus routes line and so a day return ticket will see you comfortably in Inverness, Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Some guests stay for more than a night and are glad they did. Many guests wish they'd booked for longer. However long you stay I'm confident that you'll love what this area has to offer and be glad you chose to visit.

Hi- I'm Karen. I work as a counsellor. I love meeting people, I enjoy walking. I like to travel. I recently completed the Camino de Santiago- I loved that there were 'albergues' along the Way, and that to stay in them did not cost the earth, but provided simple and clean accommodation, a comfortable bed, the opportunity to meet with other people, and to leave again in the morning feeling refreshed. I want to offer a similar experience to any guests who stay here. I'm a mum. My family are grown up now but live in the area. I feel very fortunate. I live in a very lovely part of Scotland. Nature is a very important part of my life. For me there's not much better than a walk in the countryside with a dear friend by my side. I hope you will come and stay in Birnam and experience this lovely place for yourself.
