Our home offers a warm welcome to visitors to Cambodia. Our large house is the home of Cambodians (including children) and we host volunteers serving in Phnom Penh as well as tourists. We are situated in a dusty, noisy suburb of PP (15 minutes by tuk tuk from the Russian Market). For a small donation we offer private, en-suite guest rooms for up to 3 adults and excellent Cambodian dinners. We do not make a profit. We could be the highlight of your trip.
Our house is situated in the South of the city of Phnom Penh - we offer a safe and comfortable way to connect with Cambodia and Cambodians. Our 4 en-suite guest rooms (for up to 3 people) are neat, private, pretty and clean. All our rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, balconies, fans or air-con. Air-con rooms are $20 per night and rooms with fans are $15 per night. Please contact me directly if you wish to book more than one room. We supply free drinking water and we have free wi-fi. We do not provide breakfast but guests are welcome to help themselves to breakfast eggs and can eat as much rice as they wish. For a donation of just $3 per person guests are also welcome to eat an excellent Cambodian dinner with the family - most Mondays to Fridays at around 6pm. Children under 8 years, eating with their parents, can eat dinner for free. We have lots of toys, games and books for all ages. Our home is peaceful and our guests enjoy the experience of staying with us. Tourist attractions are easily accessible from the homestay by tuk tuk or by moto. We have a well maintained tuk-tuk (with an English speaking experienced driver who lives at the house) which you can hire at a nominal rate. We can meet you at the airport - transfer cost is just $10. If you need to call someone to help you find us - please call Bunthoeurn (Bun-too-un) or Dong - these numbers are available once you have made a booking. We exist to support Cambodians - we do not make a profit.
The House yard/garden is accessed by large gates. The guest rooms are accessed by stairs at the back of the house which lead to balconies. •We live on Street 45BT (Street 43BT on an on-line map) house 18a – a large corner phteah-veng with three balconies running alongside the house. To find us - •Follow the 271 heading towards Vietnam. Take a right turn (under an elaborate archway) towards Samsom Kosal Pagoda •At the T junction turn left •Take the first turning right •At the crossroads (there is a petrol station on the left corner) turn left •Follow the road and general flow of traffic for about half mile •Eventually you will reach (on the left) a simple alfresco bar/restaurant and then a small supermarket called Vath Mart - take the next turning right. (If you reach a sharp left hand bend you have gone too far so turn back!) •Follow this road (which is new and not yet on a map) for about one third of a mile. At the T junction - turn right and we are immediately on your left - just before the soccer field •There are 2 trees in front of the 4 large mustard coloured gates of our house.
Interaction with guests
I am usually at the house however I am always available by telephone or email if you need help or advice. The Cambodians in the house are excellent hosts and experienced at making everyone feel welcome.
Other things to note
The house is not easy to find if you are just arriving in Cambodia. However Bunthoeurn can meet you with our tuk-tuk, or we can communicate with your driver (in Khmer) and direct him to the homestay. If you need to call a Cambodian to help you find us - please call Buthoeurn or Dong. Drivers in Phnom Penh are usually happy to let you use their phone :-)
- You do not have to be a Christian to stay at the house - everyone is welcome. However responsible use of alcohol and tobacco is encouraged. Sex tourism and drugs are an absolute no no.
I am British and I live and work in Cambodia. I share my Christian family home with young Cambodians who love to welcome visitors, and young foreigners who want to learn about Cambodia. Everyone is given a warm welcome.
