Description

The space

Ironmacannie mill has serviced the local population for over 400 years as a grain mill until it was converted into a dwelling house in 1990. It sleeps a maximum 10 people.; 3 bedrooms and a couple of fold down beds.
It is decorated very simply with real materials and a rustic palate.
It has 2 bathrooms and an extra loo.
The machinery room holds much of the original machinery of the mill, which can still turn when the water is diverted to the wheel.
The ancient kiln room door at the back takes you directly into the river. If you are only wishing to book two nights please read the 'other things to note ' section at the end of the description.

Guest access

You will have the whole house and garden with 14 acres of land to play in. Fishing on site.
People with children should be aware that property is on the banks of a river and therefore potentially dangerous.

We are a young couple with young children. We are always busy making and doing? The mill is run on permeculture principles. Guest are welcome to get involved if they wish.

Sauna £50
Fire bath £25
Foraging £100

Circus skills £100 to £150 for the group depending on numbers.
Massage £35
Yoga group session £50

The neighbourhood

The hidden road is a special place, it has abundant wildlife, magical bent and twisted oaks and winding waterways.
The local area has many sporting and touristic activities, but we most like the diverse subculture. You don't have to look far to find a unusual happening, alternative thinkers musicians and artists lurk around every corner. Watch out!

We are proud to announce, that resident Freya Morton will be offering circus skills workshops: trapeze and acrobalance from April onwards. If you want to treat your self, Freya is also qualified to give therapy & sports massage.

Getting around

You could bike in easily from Dumfries station. If you didn't fancy a 23 mile ride, a series of bone shaking buses could drop you at the hidden road end.
Unfortunately the easiest thing is to drive.

Other things to note

We pefer to let on a weekly basis, fri to friday.
If its low season or short notice we will consider short stays, so please get in touch. Our fixed weekend rate is 390 and runs Fri to monday. Even if people only stay till Sunday it means that there is no horrible Sunday morning check out pressure for you, and no Sunday cleaning stress for us. It works well for everyone.
Pets are welcome but are charged at 20 per animal.

We came to celebrate our daughter's 21st with 5 grown up kids, my husband and me and our dogs. The mill is great accommodation and we booked the circus skills, foraging and sauna all available for extra charge and all well worth it. The location is great with plenty of walks for tiring out kids and dogs. The bed was so comfy in the bigger of the double rooms and bedrooms were cosy. Downstairs lounge can be a bit chilly but there is a fire than can be lit to warm the room. The features around the house, the books and furniture, ornaments and record player were great. Such character. Outside there is a nice area to play for dogs and kids and a great 'dental surgery' (you'll see what I mean). Wifi is fine but not so great all through the house but you'll be too busy to worry about social media! Respect the septic tank, take your recycling home... we took all our rubbish away in fact... and keep outdoor shoes in the hall to maintain this property. Would thoroughly recommend. We loved it. Including the bats and Red Kites.

There was 9 of us staying at the mill, and it was perfect. The house is amazing, lots of space, beautifully decorated with lots of things to explore. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wanted to get away. The garden was lovely and great to run around in and explore down to the river. Lorraine was a great host, gave us advice and was nearby if we needed anything!

The water mill is a beautiful and comfortable place for a holiday. We were a group of friends but it would be equally suitable for a family. A well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. The dining room was a good size for our group of 7. Lots of interesting & quirky things in the mill from the water mill workings to a wooden rocking tractor and an ancient cine camera. The grounds were amazing, we did have superb weather, with beautiful trees, flowers, and even waterfalls in the river. There was even an old dental surgery in the grounds. It is worth bringing wellies although we didn't need them.
