Set in the village of Clyro, one mile from Hay-on-Wye.
Clyro is famous for the Victorian diarist Rev Francis Kilvert who was curate at the church in Clyro. The previous owner of Pottery Cottage, Oliver Balch, wrote a book, Under the Tump (Faber & Faber) in which he writes about the village, the area, draws on Kilvert's writings.

Clyro is a perfect spot for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Wye Valley, Black Mountains and Radnorshire. It is one mile from the famous Town of Books, Hay-on-Wye, which has bookshops, cafes, pubs, and a lively cultural life.

We moved to Clyro in September 2011 after seven years living in Buenos Aires, Argentina where our boys, Seth and Bo, were born. Oliver wrote 'Viva South America!' (Faber) during this time. Since then we have travelled to India twice, including six months in a homestay in Kerala, while Oliver was writing India Rising (Faber), a summer in a trekker's hut in Holland, six months on the Uruguayan coast, two months in Andalusia, and one month travelling around Europe by train. After gutting and renovating Pottery Cottage, we settled down in the Welsh borders and Oliver wrote a book about this area 'Under the Tump' (Faber). We are now living part of the year in Porto and doing our best to learn Portuguese. We sold Pottery Cottage to a friend in 2019 but Emma continues to manage the cottage.
