Enjoy our secluded home located on a dead end road in the middle of a Michigan hardwood forest. Although extremely quiet and private, we are located 5 minutes from downtown Traverse City. Property borders on Hickory Hills, a city owned ski resort. During the summer, enjoy hiking and biking trails, take a short drive to beaches, gourmet restaurants, wineries, or walk up the hill behind the house to play Frisbee golf. Take a little longer drive to experience the world renown Sleeping Bear Dunes!

The space

Access to your beautiful accommodations is via a flight of outdoor stairs and onto the large deck leading to your private entrance. The deck is a unique design on two levels made of Brazilian teak and has a weathered look that blends in nicely with the native plant landscaping. Although the deck is large and safe with adequate handrails on edges and stairs, it may not be safe for very young children due to the stairs and elevation of the deck. It is also not handicapped friendly.

When you are on the deck enjoying the outdoor experience, you will only hear birds and sounds of nature. There are no close neighbors to interfere with your privacy or enjoyment of Mother Nature.

Once you enter, you will see all of the custom woodwork, cabinets, and flooring that make this experience unique. This home was built by a master woodworker who owns an exotic wood import business. You will be amazed at the quality of workmanship that has gone into making this home one of a kind.

The large kitchen, master bedroom, master bath and living area is on the deck level. The second bedroom with a king bed is up a flight of stairs to a loft room where you feel like you are in the treetops. The master bathroom has a large soaking tub and separate large shower and is all finished off in fine woods and tile. The twin sinks give each master bedroom guest an area of their own. The second bedroom has a 1/2 bathroom and is on the loft level.

The kitchen is well stocked with all the kitchen essentials you need to prepare a quick bite or a gourmet meal. The dining area has a glass top round table which seats 4 to 6 people. The living area is directly adjacent to the dining room. It has a very high ceiling with skylights and the large windows around the room give you a lovely view of the hardwood forest.

Guest access

The quest will enter a series of stairs to a private entrance.

Interaction with guests

I am usually available most times, I like to check my clients in if possible to make sure they are who they say they are. Also, I like to make sure that they find what they need and if they have questions.

Other things to note

Pet(s) live on the property- a 12- year old Boston Terrier, Emma. And a 4-year old Black German Sheppard, Dex. Dex is quite huge for a Sheppard and may look intimidating, If you are afraid of large dogs, please let me know and I will kennel him up or put him in his outdoor pen. He roams my 27 acres and is pretty much protecting his turf. He loves to play stick and chuck-it ball.

-Security - Please close and lock all doors and windows when you're not in residence.
-During your stay, please respect the quality craftsmanship this home has it was custom made by my company Rare Earth Hardwoods.

-Protecting the furniture- Please place coaster under bottles and glasses especially on glass table top.
-Please clean up any spills immediately wood floors are hard to refinish Do not leave wet towels on wood floors or furniture. Use bathroom floor as it is tile.

Use cutting the boards when preparing meals as to not to damage the Corian counter tops.
There is a septic system so do not use the garbage disposal, everything goes into the trash container under the kitchen sink. Unless you recycle, see info
Please use the exhaust fan in the kitchen when cooking over the stove. I will show you how to use. No deep frying in the kitchen, it's a fire hazard. Stir frying is ok. When leaving your stay, bag all trash securely and leave it on the deck or take it to the end of the road there is a receptacle for your use, empty the re frig of all left overs and perishables. Leave the re fridge as clean as you found it.

-BBQ- an electric outdoor grill is on the outside deck . Please clean up after use.
New addition: Outdoor chiminea - never use chemicals fluids to start a fire use only kindling to create a small fire then slowly add larger wood to the flame. There is a spark arrester to use so to prevent embers from escaping. The exterior is made of clay and can get very hot make sure children supervised. Build only small fires this is not a bonfire pit! This chiminea is to used for the ambiance only! Watch it burn never leave a fire unattended or you will be asked to leave. Once the fire is out please let it cool then use the cover provided. Make sure the embers are out. The cover is used to protect from ( rain and snow). Enjoy!!
-When leaving, strip all bed sheets and soiled towels they go into the master bathroom bath tub.
OTHER MISCELLANEOUS-
-Safety in the grounds- the stairs and deck can get slippery when it rains and require careful navigation. watch your step additional lighting may be supplied if going up and down at nite.
-Turn outdoor porch light on if going out for the evening. this helps navigate using the stairs.
-Safety on the driveway- we try to keep it debris free as possible. However, be careful and watch where you are going , particularly during the winter months. Winter time maybe somewhat difficult as our snow plower comes early as possible to clean the yard. I may ask to where to park .
-Ask if you have any questions or issues- I'm almost always here! I appreciate the opportunity to make things more comfortable for you . If I'm not here, just text.

This house is absolutely amazing! We are very happy that we found this place! Beautiful, spacious and stylish! The location could not be better - just minutes from downtown and yet it's in a very quiet area in the middle of woods, surrounded by majestic trees. Deb is always there if you need anything. We loved it. Definitely will try to come back.

Deb's home was wonderful. It was very large and everything was beautiful. It's set back on a property with a lot of trees. You should definitely walk around and explore a little bit. The home is along the way to most sights outside of Traverse City like Sleeping Bear which makes it very easy to get to them. I will definitely stay here when I come back.

Deborah's home is absolutely one of a kind. The details to the architecture are stunning and the location couldn't be beat. Their home is located 5-7 Minutes from downtown Traverse City and yet perfectly, tucked back into the woods. We also enjoyed hiking through the woods on their property with their dog Dex. Rick + Deborah are great hosts and we would recommend anyone to stay!
