Schönblick Mountain Resort & Spa is situated metres from the Hochalmbahn gondola at the edge of Rauris, a picturesque Austrian village in the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern. This warm, comfortable apartment with shared access to spa facilities is the perfect place to relax after a day of activities in the mountains.

The space
Our wonderful apartment is a real gem and within a minutes walk of this beautiful and traditional Austrian village. It has all the modern conveniences such as solid wood flooring and underfloor heating throughout, and we have tried to make the place as homely as possible as well, with beautiful handmade soft furnishings.

As a result, the apartment is a home-from-home, wonderfully snug and the perfect place to relax after a hard day on the slopes.

Our living room doubles as the dining area, and there is plenty of space to enjoy a meal with friends before kicking back on the large L-shaped sofa and watching TV on the flatscreen. Otherwise, stick on a DVD or get WiFit. There is also a IPod dock and WiFi throughout the apartment.

The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with all the necessary utensils for whipping up a feast. The fridge has a tray freezer, perfect to ice your afternoon G&T or Schapps. There is also a dishwasher, electric fan oven with ceramic hob and a microwave.

The bathroom is tiled throughout with a heated towel rail, a generous bathtub, separate shower and two sinks.
The double bedroom has a large wardrobe, chest of drawers and a chair. The second bedroom has the same, with super comfy twin beds, which can be easily pushed together to make another double room. Both rooms have large windows and fabulous mountain views. The bedding in both rooms is featherdown.

Our wrap-around, solid-wood balcony is accessible from the living room and offers the most gorgeous views of the mountains. Outdoor seating and a table is also available.

Feel free to use the dedicated underground parking space available with the apartment.

From the car park you can access the heated, secure ski and boot room, the apartment itself and the bar and spa area.

The laundry and gym is also accessible from the car park.

The spa has a steam room, sauna and treatment room upstairs. Downstairs is the changing rooms and pool room, where the glass frontage offers exceptional views of the slopes.

There are lots of lovely places to eat in the village. The Brau or Stadl offer good Austrian fare, or there are several cheap and cheerful pizza and pasta restaurants. And if you fancy something a little more fancy we suggest you take a short journey to the next village, Worth, and try the excellent gourmet restaurant called GUSTO. The service is excellent and the food is exceptional. We always visit when we are at the apartment: we went on the day we got engaged and we have very fond memories of the warm, party spirit, the friends we made and the beautiful gift we left with.

There are plenty of places to snuggle up and have a glühwein in the village. Shakesbeers, at the far end of the village, stays open all night for the younger clientele and cocktails are best in the Schonblick bar.

There is a tourist information office near the church where they issue a weekly activities programme.

Activities are available all year round and include toboggoning, sleigh rides and snow walking. In the Spring, we like to go white water rafting and the Rafting Centre in Taxenbach offers a great service, complete with yodelling instructors!

There are two supermarkets in town the Billa is closest and best. But remember that in Austria EVERYTHING closes on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Andy Egger is best for ski hire: it is a very friendly family-run business and in the summer you can rent bikes from the same shop.

For ski lessons we suggest you use Karl Meier by the gondola. Skiing at Rauris is good if you are a beginner/ intermediate but limited if you are a good skier. There are lots of other good ski resorts within 30-45 mins drive if you want some variety. Zell am See, Dorfgastein and Dienten are close and provide a good challenge. If you are thinking of using these you should bear this in mind when buying your ski pass.

The mountain trainline runs from Salzberg Airport to Taxenbach. From Taxenbach take a taxi or bus up the mountain to Rauris.

Once in the village everything is accessible by foot, with supermarket, gondola and restaurants just minutes away.

If you decided to rent a car you can make use of our private parking space.

I work in London but love escaping the city to stay in our wonderful apartment in Austria and hope you will too. When I cant escape the city i unwind by playing the trumpet and guitar and catching up with friends. I recently got married to my beautiful wife and we both love hanging out with our new nephew (1 year old) and watching him grow.
