Historic 19th Century home in quaint Deersville, Amish Country nearby, beautiful sport lakes, perfect for weddings, fishing, hunting, spacious, 1 hour from Pittsburg. WiFi, DIrectTV, large gourmet kitchen, antiques and art that reflect our Austin Texas roots. Ohio hill country beauty year round. EBL-Everything but lace!

The space

Over four generations of my family have lived in this house beginning before 1900. You can rent the entire historic home (save for our private quarters) for a weekend or longer and enjoy the Ohio scenic byways and the Buckeye trail during the day, eat out in restaurants in nearby Dennison or New Philadelphia, visit Amish country or Tappan Lake Park, or create your own masterpiece in our fully furnished gourmet kitchen. This is a rare gem and perfect for family reunions, hunting groups, weddings, or for weekend getaway- just you and your special love. Hazel's House sleeps 6 in three bedrooms with air mattresses for extra guests. Please note this is the "country," and this house is rustic and old. Although we do our best to create a relaxing and special environment for you, the swallows nest in the eaves and window ledges on the porch every summer and bugs can fly in. We don't use pesticides on our property, have an organic garden out back, and hope you like nature!

Guest access

In addition to your private bedrooms upstairs and the full custom bath downstairs, you have access to the BBQ charcoal Weber grill outside, full kitchen furnished with basic supplies (flour, sugar, oil, etc.), ice dispenser, steam sauna shower, heated bathroom marble floor, hot tub, all linens, free WiFi, down pillows, and down alternative comforters. Guests who stay more than a week may request weekly use of the private washer and dryer and house cleaning service for an additional fee. Basement rooms and owner's apartment are off limits and locked, but you may enjoy the huge back yard, fire pit and the hot tub through the basement stairway.

Interaction with guests

Although we live here fulltime now, we leave to give you a private vacation experience. The wonderful marble master bath on the main floor is a custom bathroom and steam shower that's perfect for relaxing. We have added a new hot tub outside this year that is cleaned and sanitized between guest stays. We have also added a large outdoor table that seats eight for alfresco dining. A fire pit sits nearby ready for s'mores or hot dogs.
We love to cook and have a well stocked kitchen. Let us know if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary and wish for us to arrange something special. We will do our best to help you with your celebration.

Other things to note

If you have any questions about this area or the house, just ask. We want you to enjoy a hassle free vacation in Hazel's Home. We can stock the kitchen with special foods for you for a small fee, refer you to tours and restaurants, arrange a boat rental, or guide you to the Bald Eagle nesting nearby! And if you want to host a large gathering, such as a reunion or wedding event, we can put you in touch with other guesthouses in the area for your family, friends and guests. We have good cell phone service (Verizon) and WiFi in the house if you must connect to the world.

This is a precious piece of our family history, so ABSOLUTELY NO CANDLES, OPEN FLAMES, OR SMOKING INSIDE. Pick up your cigarette butts outside, please, and leave the kitchen clean. Yes, we have a maid, but this is a big house, so she appreciates a loaded dishwasher and washed pots and pans. We welcome pets, but please keep them from marking inside when they smell our dogs' scents. We allow cats and dogs, and clean very well, but if you have cat allergies, this may affect you. We are on a septic system, so please do not flush feminine hygiene products or trash or pour grease and food down the drains. If you leave earlier than planned, please let us know immediately. Please carefully follow instructions for the steam sauna shower, hot tub and the heated floor system. Kick back and enjoy!

House is as nice as advertised. Communication was great and we had no issues at all with anything. Would recommend to anyone.

Beautiful home in a quiet town. We enjoyed homemade ice cream, from the store next door, on the porch swing every evening. The beds were very comfortable, probably the best we've ever slept in while staying at a rental. Abigail was in contact with us during our stay and didn't take long to respond if we had a question. We would definitely stay here again if we ever travel to the area again.

Wonderful place to stay. Loved the art and the may antique items. Wish we had more time to read some of the many books there, like the one about Ohio.

This is the second time we stayed here and it was another great trip. We love having the modern, well-equipped kitchen with big dining room table in a space that still feels like a cozy farm house. The hot tub is great and has a really nice view.

We enjoyed a lovely stay in this lovely house. Very spacious and comfortable accommodations, everything was as described. The weather happened to be terrible so we hunkered down and enjoyed the wood stove and hot tub. The town is lacking, so prepare to travel for supplies or bring them with you. Abigail was accommodating and friendly, and quick to respond to our questions. The home was decorated beautifully for Christmas, which added to its charm. With better weather we'd have explored the nearby lake and park! Enjoy!

Raised in Texas, but my ancestral roots are in the Appalachian hills of Ohio. I have always loved entertaining, designing interiors and staging events, so when my great grandparents home became mine again, it was a perfect opportunity to create a guesthouse with history and charm in the tiny village of Deersville. In my kitchen you'll always find the holy trinity of olive oil, onions and garlic, a simple bottle of wine, and lots of laughter! I loved my urban life in Austin where I practiced law, but I moved to the country and now live in my vacation rental when not rented out. I own a business and practice law in Ohio now, and find myself fortunate to have homes in the two friendliest places on earth.
I collect useful vintage items for my homes, and especially love objects made of glass and metal. I want to create a combined experience of modern indulgence and historical relevance for my guests, allowing them to feel the history of my family in a peaceful and beautiful home that you won't want to leave
